We believe anyone can improve their home to make life better. From our Southampton Store Support office (SSO) we equip our stores, our people, and our whole business with everything it takes to help our millions of customers create a home they’ll love. Join us as an Assistant Finance Analyst and you’ll be a big part of this.

What’s the Job?

We are looking for a keen graduate to join B&Q, the UK’s leading home improvement retailer. As part of the Kingfisher group, you will be working within a top FTSE100 company. You’ll be joining a fast paced, exciting finance team with the opportunity of future career development.  You will learn the business from the bottom up, with an induction to include working in our stores, visiting distribution centres as well as meeting several key finance and non-finance stakeholders.

Our Finance apprenticeship scheme is a 36-month programme to support gaining a professional Finance qualification (ACCA or CIMA) plus an industry recognised apprenticeship qualification at the same time as gaining relevant job experience alongside essential soft skills and behaviours training. There will be plenty of support along the way in the shape of your development from your peer group, line manager and mentor.

We will provide you with varied roles to support your professional qualification effectively - which could include supporting the Commercial function, Retail Operations and Corporate Finance.  The skills you will develop include budgeting, forecasting, statutory reporting, performance analysis, project appraisal and strong excel skills, enabling you to handle large data sets and perform efficient financial modelling.  You will also develop strong communication and presentation skills, essential for building effective relationships across the business and successfully influencing stakeholders.

We will be looking for you to drive improvements in the way we work, simplifying core processes & enhancing areas of development.  You will help to prepare presentations for senior management (internal & group boards) and you will have the opportunity to complete ad hoc performance analysis.

What we need:

  • Graduate ideally with relevant numerical degree
  • Self -starter who enjoys working in a fast - paced environment
  • Strong communication and organisation skills
  • Ability to produce high quality work under pressure
  • Can prioritise effectively - always clear what is important
  • Team player - builds strong relationships with peers and stakeholders
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience using Excel & PowerPoint an advantage, but not essential

What’s in it for me?

As well as a competitive salary, our benefits package includes an award-winning pension scheme, bonus, ShareSave options, 6.6 weeks holiday, payroll giving, an Employee Assistance Programme, shopping discounts, colleague wellbeing benefits and lots more!

By the end of your development you will have gained a professional finance qualification as well as key business and behavioural skills, which will be key to your future success at the next level.

As part of a great team, you’ll be supported to grow and encouraged to explore new career directions within the business and the wider group. And, because you’ll be inspiring great things for our customers and the whole business, you’ll do work worth caring about.

We want to ensure that all employees, future employees and applicants to all Kingfisher companies are treated equally regardless of age, gender, marital or civil partnership status, colour, ethnic or national origin, culture, religious belief, philosophical belief, political opinion, disability, gender identity, gender expression or sexual orientation.
