Would you like to work with in an exciting and newly created role in our Pensions Investment Management team? We currently have a vacancy for a Financial Controller Private Assets & Property at our site in Burwood House, London.

As the Financial Controller for these asset classes, you will have ownership of all accounting processes relating to c.£8bn of illiquid assets, across a wide range of asset classes and supported by a wide range of external managers. You will be responsible for the control framework, based around substantiation of month end balances, to ensure that the schemes' accounting records accurately reflect the assets held.

In this role you will also have full responsibility for the end to end accounting process, and will be given the authority and autonomy to redesign these processes to deliver a significant improvement in timeliness and quality of the reported data. You will be required to partner with the Front Office and 3rd parties to deliver these improvements and to build new capabilities for the team in areas such as tax structuring for private investments,

Your main responsibilities as a Financial Controller will involve:

    Owning the accounting processes and records for all private market assets managed on behalf of the schemesBeing the primary point of contact for PE and Property desks within BAPFIM and day to day operational contact with 3rd party managersDesigning, implementing and maintaining controls, including analytical reviews and exception based controls, to provide efficient assurance that the accounting records fairly state the scheme's financial positionRedesigning monthly processes so that journals are processed in a timely, efficient and accurate manner to reflect investment positions and transactions in the GL Redesigning reconciliation processes so that the GL can be reconciled to supporting 3rdparty records in a timely and efficient mannerDesigning and operating controls over investment valuations to identify and address any risks of stale or otherwise inaccurate valuationsMaintaining GL structure so that it reflects investment structures and meets reporting needsWorking with 3rdparty tax advisors to leverage the value of our spend with them to provide pro-active and consistent tax structuring and compliance advice to the front officeCompleting Ad-hoc analysis as required, typically for external auditors and BAE Group Pensions, of the composition of the asset portfolio
Your skills and qualifications


    Proven experience working as an Investment Accounting professional specialising in Private Equity and/or PropertyQualified accountant - ACA preferredExperience in a Financial Services institution or, in exceptional cases, working for an audit firm specialising in the audit of such institutions

    Experience in Tax structuring for Private Market investment deals including efficient management of relationships with third party tax providers
