What you'll be doing

If you're looking for a bigger, weirder and more ambitious playground to improve the framework of a fast growing business, come join our small but mighty finance team.

We are building a finance function for the future. On top of hiring for the Finance Manager position, we're building technical team(s) that will link directly with the finance function, automating systems and data, and allowing us to continue to scale at pace.

We have a unique business model which means you'll be facing new business challenges which you'll need to solve creatively, drawing on your strong foundation of accounting knowledge and experience.

We are building systems to enable every person at Cleo to do their best work, providing accurate and real-time information to further enable our team. We'll also be opening an office in New York soon and you'll be supporting the US team as we scale it.

You will be responsible for the management of our bookkeeper and will report directly to our Head of Finance and COO.

Your key responsibilities will be:
  • Building our accounts: Managing the end to end Cleo accounting process; ensuring timely accounts that highlight where we need to act next month to drive the business forward.
  • Building smart finance processes and managing cash-flow:
    • In the same way that Cleo helps our users look after their finances, you'll be working on maintaining Cleo's financial health by owning day to day cash management for our fast-scaling international business.
    • Owning internal finance processes; including payroll, ensuring we have everything ready for external audit, and creating reports for our leadership team and the Board.
    • Suggesting ways for us to work smarter and faster; making our processes more efficient without compromising on quality as we scale.
  • Coaching our team: You'll manage one bookkeeper from day one, and will continue to grow the team as we scale across the UK and US.

About you

We are looking for someone who has both a strong finance background and a passion for company scaling. You'll be juggling multiple business-critical tasks so you understand that spending hours chasing for that missing £15 Uber receipt probably isn't the best use of your time.

As we're a fast-moving scale-up, some of the projects will require you to work outside of pure accounting and finance; from benchmarking salaries for a new hire we want to make, to getting our EMI scheme share valuations done as Cleo goes from strength to strength.
  • You're a fully qualified accountant (CIMA/ACA/ACCA), ideally with some post-qualified experience.
  • International experience preferred, as 95% of Cleo's revenue comes from the US
  • As you'll have guessed: you need to know Excel/Google Sheets! SQL experience would also be a big plus.
  • You have experience working for a startup/scale-up or a strong appetite to work for one.
  • You know how to handle the ups and downs of Xero
  • You're proactive - you can't see a big problem without wanting to solve it
  • You can communicate complex financial concepts with simplicity and clarity with people across the company.
