Job Description
Your new company An exciting opportunity with a public sector organisation for someone seeking to develop their career as an Assistant Accountant. You will be able to use and enhance your financial and management accounting skills and experience. Your new role You will be responsible for the following: * Providing financial support and guidance * Control of the capital spend and reporting process * Overseeing the raising and approval of project requests * Liaising with project owners throughout the business * Monitoring & reporting of actual and forecast spend * Correct accounting of the completed project * Leased assets: lease vs buy analysis * Review of T&Cs of proposed new leases * Lease approval and correct accounting treatment * Year end process, including preparation of year end packs, followed by financial statements * Liaison with the external auditors will include responsibility for providing all information requested and arranging interim and final audit visits, and responding to queries Further key responsibilities: * Production of Group and subsidiary company Financial Statements, including liaison with External Auditors * Monitoring and Reporting of Capital and Revenue Project spend * Maintenance of Fixed Asset Register including leased assets * Finance support * Reconciliation and review of Balance Sheet accounts * VAT - completion of quarterly returns and responding to queries What you'll need to succeed * Completed AAT qualification * Commenced or intending to commence ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA/ACA qualification * Programme of continuing personal development * Experience in a financial accounting role, with competency in double entry book keeping * Experience of liaising with external auditors and external advisers * Attention to detail and experience of working to deadlines * Experience of accounting software in an organisation with a large volume and complexity of transactions * Confident communicator, with experience of communicating with non-finance staff * Ability to adapt in a changing environment * Knowledge of accounting for leases * GCSE Maths & English (at least Grade C or 4) * Experience of calculating and completing VAT returns * Experience of working in the not for profit or education sector What you'll get in return You will receive a highly competitive starting salary of up to £26,000, depending on previous working experience, plus study support. Working days are Monday until Friday, 37 hours / week, to be worked in flexible working hours.
