We will develop your technical and leadership skills to help you reach your full potential and as your programme progresses you will have increased responsibility; working with experts who will share their knowledge, provide support and give invaluable feedback so you never stop learning. You will be part of a graduate cohort and be assigned Business Improvement and Corporate Social Responsibility Projects that can affect the way we work as a business.

What you'll be doing:

This role is a national role, consisting of rotational placements over the scheme, within the key areas of the finance function. This structure gives you the opportunity to gain a broad understanding and experience of all areas of finance, allowing you to develop skills and build key foundations for a successful career in finance.

All of our Finance Graduates begin their two-year programme with an initial rotation in Newcastle, where our Finance Shared Service Centre is based. In this initial rotation you will gain an understanding of our Finance Operating model and support functions.

In your subsequent rotations there is scope and flexibility for us to design and place our graduates in parts of the Finance function where you have specific areas of interest. Typical placements for our graduates might include:

Business Partnering working within one of our Strategic Business Units or on a project to assist business decisions. As part of this you may be required to:

  • Provide and interpret financial information
  • Conduct reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities
  • Manage financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems
  • Produce accurate financial reports to specific deadlines

Group Finance working at a Group Finance level provides the opportunity to see the overall picture of Balfour Beattys performance through internal reporting and external market perspectives. Responsibilities within Group finance may include:

  • Aiding the external Audit process
  • Keeping abreast of changes in financial regulations and legislation
  • Advising the business of key accounting policy and procedure
  • Formulating strategic and long-term business plans

Specialist areas this includes areas such as Treasury, Tax and Internal Audit. This provides a great opportunity to gain an insight into areas of finance that are more specialised and provides a perfect way of understanding these areas that many do not get to experience. This may involve:

  • Arranging new sources of finance for a company's debt facilities
  • Forecasting and reporting business cash including foreign exchange
  • Managing the all business risks
  • Carrying out audits of business areas to provide value for the business

The programme is designed so you are able to gain complete experience across the business to help support your chosen career path and studies. You will need to be fully mobile as the placements could be based anywhere within the UK.

By undertaking placements in different areas within Finance, you gain an insiders view of the people, processes and technology that are transforming our business. Each placement carries real responsibility and you will be expected to deliver what the business requires of you. You will be given specific objectives relative to each placement so that you are contributing from day one.
