A new role is becoming available in our London office for a Management Accountant with at least 3-4 years experience working in financial services, knowledge of banking products and regulations will be preferred.

Your business:

Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group’s relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors. IB&M provides a full range of capital raising, transactional and risk management products and services. The division also performs an important internal role for the Group by providing markets, lending and transaction banking execution capabilities to other CBA business units that allows them to capture opportunities with business customers.

IB&M launched a new purpose and strategy in May 2014. That purpose is to enhance our clients’ success through market-leading capabilities and unique insights. It’s part of our DNA.

Your team:

This fundamental role in the London finance team is responsible for delivering the London Branch’s financial management information.

This role is required to manage and deliver the following:

  1. Accurate and timely monthly P&L and Balance Sheet reporting to the London Management Committee
  2. Keen focus on financial control of the business.
  3. Scoping and implementing process improvement.

Achieving this will require a high attention to detail alongside superior time management and analytical skills. The candidate will also require strong stakeholder management skills, as this roles involves close co-ordination with the IB&M International Performance Reporting team in Hong Kong and the IB&M Finance teams in Sydney.

Your impact & contribution:

This role will have a direct impact on the financial control of the Branch.

The candidate will be the main point of contact for all expense, tax, balance sheet and subsidiary related queries.

It is a high profile role, with exposure to Senior Management both in London and Sydney.

Your reporting lines:

The role would be a direct report into the Senior Manager, Finance.

Your responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include:

  • Development of strong customer relationships with the various IB&M Divisions and with other IB&M Finance teams.
  • Providing insightful analysis of Branch monthly performance, across both Profit and Loss and Balance sheet components.
  • Prepare expense forecasts and budgets for the CBA London Branch.
  • Preparation of FCA and APRA regulatory reporting for the Bank’s subsidiaries.
  • Calculation of monthly tax provisioning of current and deferred tax and VAT return submissions and payments.
  • Preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Identify, assess and manage risks within area of responsibility and potential mitigating controls.
  • Provide timely responses to information requests to the businesses to support decision-making.
  • Manage accounting and reporting procedures and systems, ensuring all Standard Operating Procedures are complete and current.
  • Continuous improvement of reporting formats to maintain relevancy and meet customer requirements.
  • Participation in system upgrade projects to ensure the continued financial integrity of all systems and maintain seamless production of reporting. Perform deep-dives regarding specific return items to identify efficiencies in process.
  • Identify and implement productivity initiatives both in terms of time saving exercise and cost saving.
  • Positively contribute and collaborate with the wider Finance team.
  • Positively contribute to performance culture.

Your skills & experience:

  • Ability to problem solve quickly and communicate clearly, particularly with regard to technical work to non-technical stakeholders
  • At least 3-4 years experience working in financial services and knowledge of banking products and regulations will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful process improvement
  • A strong background in financial control
  • Ideally you will have advanced analytical and data analysis experience
  • Excel, Access and PowerPoint skills

Your qualifications:

  • Degree qualified
  • Qualified accountant or similar (newly qualified or part qualified)
  • Strong accounting skills including knowledge of IFRS accounting standards
  • Strong numeracy, PC and GL systems and reporting package skills.
