The Senior Manager, Strategic Business, Financial Planning and Analytics works with the line of Business/Operating Group to lead the design, development, and implementation of business solutions that drive measurable business outcomes.
The Senior Manager, Strategic FP&A plays the role of strategic financial consultant to the line of business leaders to assist them with the development of their financial strategies to ensure overall financial performance.

A key part of the role is defining the engagement approach, managing business relationships and executing analytics initiatives to provide insights on and to drive business results. This includes overseeing the research and analysis, generating ideas, structuring data and building solutions. The Senior Manager, Strategic FP&A is also responsible for the development of the annual financial plans and quarterly forecasts for the business.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Business Delivery & Operational Effectiveness
  • Accountable for the design, development and implementation of analytic solutions that meet business objectives, this includes:
    • Participating in interviews, brainstorming sessions and workshops with key stakeholders to identify business objectives
    • Translating business objectives into strategic solutions as a Finance, Analytics and Business subject matter expert
    • Building high quality analytic solutions that are intuitive for senior audiences, simple to maintain, and drive real business outcomes
    • Building high quality financial models that are reusable with scenario and sensitivity planning
    • Building financial plans and forecasts that are driver based
  • Oversight for the preparation of the Operating Group's Annual Business Plan, targets and forecasts
  • Advise and provide decision support to executives and senior management. Provide support/advice for certain special projects, acting as finance representative.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and managing the financial processes, analyses and reports to ensure that complete and accurate financial information is provided to Operating Group leadership to be used in business decision processes and for performance management and external reporting.

Client & Relationship Management
  • Builds and manages key relationships with partners to build a lasting foundation of trust and advice
    • Ensures successful application of financial solutions into business solutions and transition a to the business for implementation and measurable financial results
  • Leads planning and forecasting function within Operating Group to understand business requirements ensuring that reporting provided meets business needs and to remain apprised of changes or initiatives that would impact financial reporting.
  • Provide proactive advice, creative solutions and analysis to line of business

Risk Management and Control
  • Ensure compliance with financial corporate governance requirements including policies, procedures, reporting requirements, performance metrics and internal controls.
  • Identify potential risk situations within the scope of work, make recommendations and/or escalate to senior management, where appropriate.
  • Understand risks inherent in the operating area and ensure appropriate actions, including accuracy and safeguarding of all documentation, and any other requirements to ensure operational integrity is maintained.

Change & Innovation
  • Works closely with the Enterprise Data Team to champion the adoption of standard enterprise tools
  • Partner with all stakeholders to ensure a continous improvement mindset toward stress testing initiatives.
  • Maintain an awareness of best practices to improve/refine processes that may increase productivity and/or correct any deficiencies.

Business Performance Management
  • Oversees the execution of initiatives in line with the enterprise strategy and direction
    • Educates business partners on the business solutions and financial plans by effectively communicating and story boarding the approach, the benefits and the possible outcomes
    • Builds solutions with the enterprise direction to facilitate integration across models
    • Works closely with the Enterprise Data Team to champion the adoption of standard enterprise tools
  • Articulate the linkages between the accountabilities and authorities of different roles across various stakeholder groups by establishing the context in which they will work collaboratively with one another.
  • Deliver significant ad-hoc analysis to support strategic and tactical decision making by Operating Group leadership
  • Provide analysis of results and identify critical information for productivity initiatives

Managerial Leadership

  • Establishes and maintains a culture and work environment that attracts, retains, and motivates the highest calibre of skilled employees.
  • Display and encourage appropriate high performance behaviours to ensure behaviours in the group are congruent with the Being BMOl.
  • Builds and manages relationships with the Wealth LFO teams to proactively identify opportunities and issues which may affect partners/clients
Collaborate with Wealth Finance Leadership Team to keep up-to-date on partner/client strategies and provide colleagues with advance notice of issues or changes that may be coming down the pipeline.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Possesses a university degree in business/commerce, data sciences, engineering, finance and/or mathematics (graduate level degrees preferred) and/or 7to 10 years of experience in analytics, finance and/or consulting; CA CPA or engineering graduates with MBA or CFA a plus
  • Possess advanced knowledge of design and analysis methodologies to work in an agile development environment
  • Familiar with one or more industry leading data and analytics tool sets including, but not limited to, TIBCO Spotfire, TIBCO BPM, SQL, SAS and Tableau
  • If already a BMO employee, demonstrates solid knowledge of BMO's vision, mission, and strategy
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, with capability of effectively interacting with senior managers and executives
  • Strong ability to understand, analyze and review financial spreadsheets, typically using Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities without compromising quality
  • Excellent relationship management skills and an ability to establish conducive working relationships with stakeholders across different business groups
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and establish priorities
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
