An advisory role for the day-to-day working of all aspects of Employment Tax; supporting and reporting to the Head of Employment Tax. This role covers compliance, governance, planning and advisory matters for all types of employment and expatriate tax issues.

Description

The Employment Tax Specialist will provide day to day support in:

  • Income Tax relating to PAYE matters
  • Income Tax relating to UK tax sourcing requirements
  • Income tax relating to Modified PAYE Schemes
  • National Insurance and international Social Security Agreements where applicable to the UK
  • National Insurance relating to Modified NIC Schemes
  • All employment related taxes relating to Settlement Agreements, Discovery Declarations, HMRC Clearance Requests and Foreign Service Relief applications
  • Bank Payroll Tax (where applicable in any UK tax year)

This role will also provide support to the Head of Employment Tax for:

  • Assisting with mitigation of risk in relation to employment tax, expatriate tax and share scheme tax compliances processes
  • Assist in development of employment and expatriate tax strategies for the London Branch relating to HMRC guidance and legislative updates
  • Assist on governance of employment tax compliance within the HR, International Mobility, Benefits and Corporate Services teams where department staff are responsible for administrative processes affecting the Company's adherence to employer tax compliance practices
  • Assisting to formulate guidance on HR policy structuring where applicable to employment tax compliance practices
  • In-house advisory for employment and expatriate tax matters to HR Business Partners, other relevant internal HR teams, London Branch business lines and other international offices where related to UK tax compliance matters
  • Preparation of all employment tax related Annual Returns and statutory reporting to HMRC, including (but not limited to) PAYE Settlement Agreement, P11D / P11D(B) Return, Form 42 Share Scheme Return, Appendix 4 Short Term Business Visitors Return, Annual Employer Return re Payroll PAYE / RTI compliance
  • Prepare data submissions for the external self-assessment tax return process for employees with the relevant benefit provision, including review of compensation data reporting and analysis to external tax service provider, reviewing of overall process and ensuring compliance within HMRC deadlines, mitigation of risk to the Bank as an employer

Share Schemes

  • Providing assistance to manage all company share schemes for the UK Group companies, including employee share offers, employee free shares plans and share option awards
  • Advising on employee and employer tax obligations within the London Branch
  • Liaison with UK Group companies and communications to employees
  • Internal accounting entries and account reconciliations relating to the Company share schemes
  • Liaison with HM Revenue & Customs regarding scheme information at inception
  • HMRC statutory reporting and Annual Return
  • Where applicable, assist with administration aspects of new and current schemes (in conjunction with the HR Analyst)

Profile

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Professional Qualifications (ATT, CTA, ACA etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of tax legislation applicable to employment tax, expatriate tax, share schemes, share option plans, taxable benefits and payroll PAYE requirements
  • Significant experience gained from a accountancy firm or organisation in employment or expatriate tax
  • Understanding of share schemes administration and tax requirements
