Job Title Assistant Accountant Department Finance Reporting to Management Accountant Overall Job Purpose The job holder provides support predominantly to the Management Accounting function in the production of financial information and analysis for both internal and external reporting requirements. To support the Finance team's aim to provide timely, accurate and reliable financial information in an efficient manner to key internal and external stakeholders whilst ensuring control standards are met at all times. The role will ideally be suited to a candidate who has completed AAT or equivalent and is part way through completing a further recognised accounting qualification ( CIMA/ACCA). Scope of Job Reporting directly to the Management Accountant . The primary relationships are with the Management Accountants and the Financial Controller. Main Duties 1 To ensure the completion of the management accounting and period end close processes including but not limited to: Weekly and monthly repair and hire volume analysis / statistics Preparation and posting of journal entries Completion of balance sheet account reconciliations with commentary Calculation of accruals and prepayments and ensuring that these are fully supported Intercompany and Shared Services reporting Review of P ersonal I njury referral income and costs Finalise c ost analysis & departmental costs review ensuring all costs have been correctly allocated Upload of results into Group Reporting system & submission of supporting schedules Production of schedules for mid-month and month end accounts review meetings 2 P roduction & issue of weekly / periodic volumes and KPIs reports 3 Assist in the production of ad-hoc financial analysis and reports as required to support management & financial accounting processes 4 Work proactively with the Management Accountant to review and analyse operational variances 5 Assistance in preparation of budget / forecast data and updating the actuals within the underlying models 6 P roduction of Scheme profit and loss reporting including presentation to the management team and resolving follow up queries & required actions 7 P roduction of draft returns for Financial and Regulatory external bodies eg National Statistics Office 8 To assist in the production of the Statutory Accounts & the provision of data during the External Audit process 9 To produce quarterly commission forecasts for agreement with referrers 10 To undertake any other duties consistent with the position including providing cover for the M anagement A ccountant Key Competencies A comprehensive list of the Operational and Leadership Competency Frameworks can be found on and link directly into the Performance Management processes. All colleagues are expected to meet the expected standard of competen cy for their role. The following level of competency has been identified for this post: Operational Competency : Level 1 This is all non-management roles. x Leadership Competency : Level 1 Operational Management - Team Leader, Team Manager, Supervisor, Ops Manager, Account Manager, SME Manager etc. Leadership Competency : Level 2 Senior Management - Senior Manager, Department Manager, Head of etc. Leadership Competency : Level 3 Strategic Leader -Senior Strategic Area/ Divisional Leader, Senior Executive Leader etc. Leadership Competency : Level 4 Senior Executive Board Leader - PLC Board Level or equivalent. Person Specification Skills Required Excellent communication skills both verbal and written in order to liaise effectively and confidently with all levels of management and staff. Ability to fully understand all processes and the impacts on the Company Financials. Flexible and hands on individual with strong problem solving skills. Experience Working knowledge of SUN Systems and Vision would be beneficial Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential Basic knowledge and understanding of financial processes. Qualifications Qualified AAT (or equivalent) & Part Qualified CIMA/ACCA/ACA Additional Skills Professional and confidential conduct. Resilient in nature with excellent planning, organising and time management skills. Analytical, good attention to detail and a methodical approach
