Job Description

Join a growing and dynamic team as a Principal Accountant. This role provides an excellent opportunity to leverage prior experience to develop new processes and improve existing financial reporting processes. Role includes the preparation and timely completion of external reports in compliance with U.S. GAAP and filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. This position interacts with senior management on reporting matters.


• Preparation of Forms 10–Q/K including XBRL for Ameriprise Financial. Includes ensuring that disclosures are in compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements. Negotiate with internal business partners to ensure quality and timely information is provided and to identify potential improvements to processes.
• Preparation and/or review of subsidiary financial statements.
• Preparation of working paper documentation supporting financial reports.
• Monitor changes in financial reporting guidance and new transactions and events and work with business partners to assist with the implementation of new accounting standards and to update disclosures in a timely manner. Communicate changes to reports to management, including preparation of impact analysis and accounting memos that document issues in a clear and comprehensive manner. Provide insightful qualitative analysis.
• Perform analyses on SEC comment letter trends and peer company disclosures and communicate findings to senior leadership
• Perform analyses on financial statements and disclosures.
• Work closely with external auditors on SEC filings and related matters.
• Maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting and assist with testing of internal controls for design and operating effectiveness.
• Assist with ad–hoc projects, such as maintenance and testing of financial reports and general ledger re–open projects.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3 to 5 years work experience in financial reporting, SEC reporting, or general accounting experience within financial services industry.
• Demonstrated decision–making skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA License.
• Experience in public accounting audit.
• XBRL experience and knowledge of U.S. GAAP Taxonomy.
• Experience with insurance accounting.
