Scope and Purpose of Position

The role of the Business Systems Analyst is to be a liaison between end users/business and IT to help ensure that the final outcome of the project meets the business needs and requirements. The individual in this position assists in defining business requirements, software specifications, applications and workflow processes.

Essential Functions:

  • Consult with end users and management to identify and document business requirements of proposed application systems or business mandate.

  • Evaluate current and future business needs to recommend applicable solutions to improve current systems

  • Develop and maintain functional specifications for new or modified business systems. Inclusive of objective, input, process, output requirements, data scope/definitions/mapping, usage, formatting and security requirements

  • Utilizing existing business systems to generate reports

  • Analyzing reports to assess progress towards project goals

  • Track and document changes to business requirements and functional specifications.

  • Creating presentations to communicate results to executives

  • Monitor and document post–implementation problems and revision requests.

  • Developing/modifying strategic approaches to achieve business objectives

  • Provide issue/resolution support as required

  • Education & Experience

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent combination of experience and education

  • Minimum of three (3) years business/systems analysis

  • Minimum (3) years progressive business operations experience, preferably in managed care or retail optical

  • Proven experience with business analyst best practices and deliverables

  • Strong understanding of IT Technologies and business systems processes

  • Excellent analytical skills

  • Expertise with Microsoft Excel

  • Experience with SQL preferred

  • Competencies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write technical documentation, reports and correspondence

  • Ability to speak and present information effectively before groups of customers or Associates of the organization

  • Read (in English) and comprehend complex documents including government regulations, detailed business requirements, instructions, correspondence, and/or memos is required

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to access, compile and analyze large volume data sets into concise and precise information

  • Define business processes into manageable components and understand and analyze metrics

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions independently; delegate/escalate issues appropriately

  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited information is available
