The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the Assistant Controller or Chief Accounting Officer in carrying out the responsibilities of the accounting departments. Duties include but are not limited to accounts payable, expense reports, bank reconciliations, and wire distributions.

What You Can Do

  • Pays vendors by scheduling and preparing checks verifying federal id numbers; responding to vendor inquiries; resolving purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation; insuring credit is received for outstanding memos; issuing stop–payments or purchase order amendments.
  • Recording entries for expenses to accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoice/expense reports.
  • Pays employees by receiving and verifying expense reports and requests for advances.
  • Verifies vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and credit card reconciliations
  • Assist with month–end closing process by conducting research and making correction journal entries for account discrepancies, preparing closing journal entries, and posting accrual entries.
  • Monitor multiple cash balances on a day–to–day basis and post transactions where needed.
  • Prepare interest distributions to investors on a quarterly basis and maintain substantiation of the distributions.
  • File 1099s at the beginning of the fiscal year.
  • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practice.
  • Perform other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as required from time to time by the Assistant Controller or Chief Accounting Officer
  • Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential

What You Bring With You

  • Bachelor's Degree or some college courses in accounting or business preferred.
  • 2+ years' experience in accounting or related field
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • Experience with Quickbooks or Sage 300 preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is a plus
