Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

7 Year Fixed Term Contract

Department/Faculty: Financial Services Division

Reports to: Provost

Salary: Senior Administrative 1 (114, Schedule B) Salary Scale [€117,915 to €151,477 per annum] - appointment will be made at a point in line with Government Pay Policy

Hours of Work: 37 hours per week

The Role:

We are seeking to fill the Chief Financial Officer role. The CFO will provide strategic leadership to the University on all financial strategy, management and investment matters as they relate to the running of the University.

The CFO is responsible for providing insightful advice and guidance to the Provost, Board and University Officers in support of delivery of the University's investment and growth strategy. The CFO will be an important member of the senior executive team and will be expected to bring strategic vision and the ability to build productive working relationships within the University and externally.

The Person will possess:
  • excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills;
  • financial planning and risk management experience, skill and competency;
  • superior negotiation skills;
  • strategic and innovative approach to their role, and who excels in organisational leadership, influencing people outside the sphere of normal management;
  • demonstrable working relationship with banks and financial institutions and an ability to provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues;
  • ability to set clear budgetary processes to ensure the most effective use of the University's financial resources;
  • ability to lead financial discussions on behalf of the university with a broad stakeholder group, including the Higher Education Authority, donors, investors and members of the Provost's Council;
  • proven managerial experience as they will be responsible for managing senior staff in the Financial Services Division (70 FTEs across the Division) to ensure optimal implementation of Trinity's financial policies, procedures and practices;
  • recognised financial qualification relevant to this role e.g. CPA, CMA.

Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin is Ireland's premier University with a turnover of over €370m, on a campus covering 300, 000 Sqm in Dublin City. The University has ambitious development plans, including a large capital programme which will include delivery of purpose built student accommodation and the E3 Learning Foundry over the next three years. A major philanthropic campaign was launched in 2019 to support the development of the Trinity St James's Cancer Institute, the E3 Research Institute, a new Law School and development of the Old Library. Trinity is leading the establishment of an Innovation District in Dublin at its site at Grand Canal Quay and the financing of this significant project will form a key part of the CFO's work.
