Product Control is a global function with c1000 staff based in London, New York, South Africa, India and across the Asia Pacific region. Product Control is primarily responsible for understanding, substantiating and controlling the daily trading balance sheet and income statement for Barclays Investment Bank. This includes;

The production of a comprehensive daily trading P&L and balance sheet

The execution of regular independent price verification, ensuring that the appropriate accounting principles are applied

Partnering with the firm's business areas and other support groups in facilitating new products and initiatives

Developing and reporting management accounting information

If successfully appointed you will be joining a team who will be enhancing process, reporting and controls whilst ensuring the flawless execution of BAU. The team will also balance the delivery of critical projects whilst identifying those that are strategic and those that are tactical.

Overall purpose of role

Product Control has a significant presence and role within the organisation. There is a close working relationship with the trading desks and other areas focusing on control, service and reporting. We are a central point of contact for many issues that affect the bank including new product approval, model validation and independent verification of derivative valuations. By placing a heavy emphasis on information technology and focusing on project work we are able to address control and operational risks and meet our internal and external obligations.

Key Accountabilities

This PC role will form part of a team covering the daily P&L and balance sheet control roles for the Equities Trading businesses:

P&L Reporting and Explain. New deal analysis. Investigation and resolution of issues on a timely basis by engaging all areas of the bank (Front Office, Operations, Reg Reporting, Tax, Technology, etc). Responsible for controlling the entity. Project work such as process improvements and system upgrades. Managing the implementation of new infrastructure to support new trading activities. Month end tasks including: Reconciliations between source systems, sub-ledger and main ledger Balance Sheet preparation and analysis Independent Price Verification

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

The role will involve continuous relationship with various stakeholders (FO, Risk, IT, TCU and IB MO) with the following expected leadership responsibilities and decision making:

Supervision of daily task (New deal analysis; P&L, Balance Sheet, Significant Trade Review on complex transaction) Monitoring of Key Controls and Reconciliations Active participation in the redesign and delivery of P&L roadmap for Equities Supervision, Review and signoff on sub-ledger and main ledger, Balance Sheet preparation and analysis

Risk and Control Objective
Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards

Your Skills and Qualifications will include
Minimum of 2:1 degree or equivalent Numerate based A-levels and degree or equivalent Part or Fully Qualified CIMA/ACA / ACCA preferred Previous exposure to finance control environments preferred Analytical Numerate Strong Communication Skills Problem Solving Good understanding of Excel Diligent and attentive to detail Genuine interest in financial markets Enthusiastic Fast Learner Team player Ambitious Keen to learn Shows initiative Confident and committed Responsible attitude with sound time management skills, and the ability to meet deadlines
