Due to an internal promotion, our client, a National mining business, is looking to hire a Financial Accountant to start developing their career in the mining industry. Our client is a successful miner and exporter of natural resources to customers around the world. With an established portfolio of existing assets along with two development sites, our client represents one of Australia's success stories in the mining sector.

After enjoying a sustained period of growth and profitability, our client is looking forward to expanding its current operations by successfully developing and building two new key assets. It is an exciting time to join this business, which is offering the right person a fantastic opportuntiy to cut their teeth in the Australian mining sector.

The role of Financial Accountant is very varied and covers a lot of interesting reporting requirements. As well as supporting the existing Mine Accounting team this role will look after the reporting responsibilities for two main operational units. Firstly the infrastructure business looks after the financial reporting associated with the movement of the resources from mine site to export. Where the Mine Accountants look after mine related financial activities and the Revenue Accountants look after the resources once it is ready for shipment, the Project Accountant will primarily report on financial matters associated with all rail and port related activities.

The second aspect of this role is to look after the reporting of all CAPEX activities from approvals to adding new assets to the register. As part of this unit you will also look after the reporting of the two new assets under development. The idea is that, once those assets move into the production phase the Financial Accountant will take on the Mine Accountant role for one or both of those operations. The career path is laid for the Financial Accountant to learn the business by supporting the existing team, manage their own portfolio and expand their knowledge to be able to take on the duties of a Mine Accountant.

To be considered for this role it is likely that:

  • You will have begun your career or perhaps are still in a chartered environment.
  • You will either already be CA/CPA (or equivalent such as ACCA) accredited or looking to work towards that (our client will fully assist/sponsor attaining accreditation).
  • You will be interested in learning and developing your career in the mining sector.
  • You are interested in a varied workload and are happy to assist colleagues as required.
  • You will be a confident, self-starter who is happy to work autonomously or as part of a team.
  • You have previous experience in statutory financial reporting.
