NGO serving members in rural areas to save and access small loans

Accommodation provided

Suakoko, Liberia

2 Months

Our partner began as a collection of Village Saving and Loan Associations in and around Bong County, serving members in rural areas to save and access small loans. To date there are about 90 different schemes supporting local communities, to the number of 2700 members. From 2017 they started to introduce a more formal structure to offer a wider support.

You will begin with a review of their existing finance procedures, systems and controls. You will be making and implementing recommendations for best practice, taking into account the resources and capacity of the team. You will be working in the main hub with the full time Finance Officer and part time Finance Support. The Finance Officer has a diploma in accounting and the Finance Support is currently studying accountancy. You will be reviewing their capacity and providing coaching as necessary.

Our partner also requested support to establish a robust and user friendly system for their new credit union scheme. They do not feel they currently have the knowledge and capacity to manage multi donors and funds and would like fund management training. They would also like to introduce stronger reporting and budgeting procedures. They are currently registering the credit union, ready for launch at the end of the year. For the cooperative they would like a review of the system and an introduction of better production, distribution and tracking procedures.
