Accounting Supervisor Under the Direction of the General Manager, the Accounting Supervisor is responsible for performing highly specialized accounting work required to maintain the company's general ledger. The Accounting Supervisor directs and coordinates the daily activities of the accounting staff to quickly and accurately recording revenues, expenditures, assets, and liabilities of the company. The Accounting Supervisor should be a highly motivated self-starter with supervisory, review, and proofing experience. The Accounting Supervisor is also responsible for preparing annual financial statements, conducting financial analysis, coordinating external audit functions and managing the internal audit functions for Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor Holdings Limited and its subsidiaries. Directly responsible for the timely maintenance of the accounting books and records of the Company inclusive of subsidiary ledgers such as fixed asset registers and inventory ledgers. Supervises and coordinate activities of the Accounting Department of the Company as well as other clerical workers performing accounting and bookkeeping tasks. Review and reconcile contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement. Apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and where necessary prepare journal entries to the general ledger accounts. Establish, modify, document, implement and ensure adherence to accounting control procedures. Coordinates the preparation of all financial reports, monthly management accounts, annual financial statements, reports to shareholders, tax returns, and reports for government regulatory agencies. Responsible for the preparation of budgets and summaries and forecasts for future business growth and general economic outlook. Review reports to analyze projections of sales and profit against actual figures, budgeted expenses against final totals, and suggests methods of improving the planning process as appropriate. Coordinates with the External Auditors, ensuring efficient planning, implementation and execution of the annual financial audit. Assist with the design of a comprehensive internal regime inclusive of internal audit programs and checklists to ensure (1) the safeguarding and protection of group assets, (2) the most optimal and efficient utilization of company resources and (3) the mitigation of company operational risk. Prepares internal audit schedules and establishes ongoing and recurring checks to ensure compliance with internal controls and the overall effectiveness of the internal audit regime. Prepares regular status reports highlighting non-conformities and irregularities in the internal audit findings for review and action where necessary by the Boards of Directors of the Company. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES : Strong understanding of Accounting Principles Ability to develop and establish financial policies and procedures. Ability to effectively direct and supervise. Knowledge of operating and capital budget concepts. Ability to analyze financial data and to prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion. Knowledge of policies and practices associated with payroll and benefits administration. Knowledge of personnel policies and procedures. Knowledge and ability in the use of a personal computer and software applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Quickbooks, etc.). Ability to effectively use a modern automated financial management system. Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records. Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally. Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions. Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions. Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with the staff, suppliers and management. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE 1. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent (or Part Qualification from a recognized Professional Accounting Body) plus at least 7 years of relevant working experience. 2. A Diploma or Qualifications in Internal Auditing from a recognized institution. 3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the confidence to communicate with top management.
