Project / Cost Accountant

  • Rapidly growing market leading infrastructure & Utilities organisation
  • Oversight of both NSW & QLD Accounting projects - Travel is required
  • Preference to candidates that have a short notice period / immediately available

The Role:

A very exciting opportunity has been made available for an experienced project & cost Accountant to take responsibility for the efficient and effective reporting and maintenance of finance and accounting functions pertaining to a portfolio of projects. The aim of the role is to work closely with the accountants and key project personnel to provide effective accounting processes and contribute toward a safe, productive and positive working environment. You will be responsible for delivering on projects across both NSW & QLD.


  • Analysing project cash flows (forecast and actual), working closely with the broader finance team to deliver working capital improvements
  • Assisting with ensuring compliance with internal and external audit obligations, including the application of the company's Financial Risk Controls Matrix
  • Providing technical and accounting expertise and support to Project Managers
  • Working closely with the Project Managers to plan and execute initiatives designed to monitor project lifecycle (from tender to financial completion
  • Contributing to the development, implementation and delivery of robust monthly project financial reporting and measurement tools
  • Supporting the procure to pay processes, including assisting site staff in the establishment of new vendors/sub-contractors, raising of purchase orders, accrual management, liaison with suppliers and reconciliation of purchase card expenses
  • Generating monthly project reports for a wide audience, including internal management, auditors and the ultimate parent entity

Key Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and CA/CPA Qualified
  • 3 years + experience in a similar role within the construction, Utilities or renewables industry
  • An Australian driving licence and a willingness to travel to various sites across NSW & Queensland
  • Strong Project Management, Financial Planning & Analysis & Financial Accounting experience including comprehensive understanding of accounting standards & accounting principles
  • Experience working with Construction Contracts and working knowledge of accounting standards (in particular AASB 111/IAS 11)
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal and listening) with an ability to communicate complex and/or financial issues in an understandable manner
  • Open to interstate travel (once every 2nd month)
