Job Description
This role will be responsible for the management of all tax compliance obligations, tax reporting, tax audit & risk management, strategic planning and project work primarily for China, and also support for APAC region.
The appointee will have the opportunity of joining a FTSE100 international group of companies, with the remit of managing a variety of tax works, with substantial responsibility and challenges. Based in Shanghai, the role will require travel to divisional and group locations UP to 30% of the time.
The role directly reports to Senior Finance Director China and with a dotted line to the International Tax Director EMEA and APAC.

Duties and Responsibilities
•The implementation, and local compliance monitoring, of tax policy, best practice and minimum operating standards to ensure compliance with corporate tax policy.
•The identification and management of tax risk and those specifically arising from tax audits. The implementation of procedures to manage and reduce this risk, as part of the Tax Function's overall risk framework.
•Support local finance team to build and maintain a strong and cooperative relationship with local tax authorities and work closely with the local government function on behalf of Group Tax.
•Be responsible for updating local tax policies and procedures and agreeing these with local management teams;
Identify and evaluate tax benefits, implement regional value adding tax opportunities;

•Build relationships with regional business and finance leaders to become a trusted business partner;

•Advise on tax efficient financing and repatriations for the region;

•Monitor regional legislative developments, evaluate implications and application to the region;

•The hands-on management of the annual tax filing and compliance process alongside the outsourced tax compliance function to ensure accurate and timely filed tax returns.
•Assisting finance teams with production of supporting documentation for inter-company charges and other transfer pricing matters.
•The provision of day to day tax support, working where necessary with tax advisors, to Smiths' businesses operating: support local financial controllers in new business initiatives, supply chain and contracting models and local tax audits, and on wider tax related projects including changing regulation, planning opportunities and M&A.
•Work with the Treasury team to manage the movement of cash. Control and report tax cash payments, including management of estimated tax payments throughout the year.
•Work effectively with other sub-teams in the tax function including the US, UK, transfer pricing teams;

•Provide support on the international aspects of acquisitions, disposal and reorganisations for regional group businesses;

•Provide support for global group tax planning initiatives, forecasting and projects which support Smiths' overall tax strategy.
