Practice Financial Controller

Working in partnership with a top 40 accountancy practice based in Hertfordshire who are looking to recruit a qualified Financial Controller. This role reports directly to the Management Partner.

Responsibilities
  • Managing the firms's annual budget and half-yearly forecasting processes; liaising with Management Committee, and other partners as appropriate and overseeing the input of the data into the firm's budget model
  • Work with the Management Committee to define and interpret regular management reporting and analysis on financial performance for the firm; providing understanding of key performance indicators and analysis of variances
  • Managing the working capital management for the firm - ensuring that bills, recoveries and cash collections are managed effectively and efficiently through team; challenging performance in these areas where required and agreeing appropriate action to take when issues arise
  • Overseeing month end and year end processes, making sure that billings, variances and journals are posted into the firm's finance system in a timely manner
  • Assist in the production and preparation of group business plans and support the partners in identifying and developing strategy for their practice areas
  • Continual review of group performance, providing support in respect of departmental structures and changes when required, identifying and working with relevant stakeholders
  • Working with partners and HR on resourcing requirements; appraisal process; salary review process
  • Co-ordinating the agenda for the monthly group partner meetings and providing active participation in these meetings
  • Supervision of preparation of management accounts
  • Cashflow forecasts
  • Flash results analysis

Candidate skills/education
  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA Qualified
  • Experience of working in a partnership / service sector / time-cased recording environment
  • Ability to understand and meet client expectations
  • Project Management, team leadership, delegation skills and people management experience
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Commercially minded
  • Ability to handle / process confidential information in a sensitive manner
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills to enable proactive relationships with business leaders
  • Capable of contributing to the strategic agenda with strong operational skills
  • Confident manner, able to use initiative and is enthusiastic with a collaborative, participative approach and the ability to engage, inspire and influence people at all levels in the organisation
