Well–established family office seeks an experienced CFO. The family office is responsible for providing trust and investment management services benefitting members of a multi–generational single family with generational wealth. This strategic business partner will be responsible for managing the accounting function of the family office, which includes maintenance of financial controls, financial reporting, cash management operations and oversight of tax and regulatory compliance. A team of eight accounting professionals will report to the CFO. The CFO will report to the President of the family office, which has nearly 20 employees altogether. No family members work in the office, and the CFO will have limited interaction with the family. The family office uses outside investment advisors, and focuses on values–based investments in a variety of investment classes. The family also has three private foundations. The family's approach is low–key and modest. The family office's mission is protecting and preserving the family's assets. The CFO will help coordinate the family's outside advisors for better results, reporting systems, and controls. Primary Job ResponsibilitiesIdentifying and understanding complex accounting or tax–related issues, communicating them clearly and in a timely manner to the proper people in the organization, and working with senior management and the accounting team to resolve issues as they arise.Management of, and responsibility for, the performance of the accounting team, which includes CPAs. The CFO will share responsibility with the other members of senior management for accounting team personnel decisions, including hires, promotions, determination of compensation levels, and employment terminations, as needed.Reviewing tax returns and supervising the tax compliance function.Ensuring the accounting team delivers to senior management timely, accurate, and meaningful reporting of operational results, financial position, and other important financial metrics.Sharing responsibility with the other members of senior management to ensure best–practice controls are in place to mitigate risks to the confidentiality and security of the financial information to which the family office has been entrusted.Ensuring the accounting team identifies and implements, on a timely basis, cost–effective improvements to systems, procedures, and controls within the accounting function.Ensuring banking and investment custodian relationships are managed properly.Management of outside professionals who serve the accounting function, including providers of information technology services, tax compliance, advisory and planning services, and public accounting attest services. ???Qualifications and RequirementsUndergraduate degree and CPA license required. Advanced degrees preferred.At least 15 years of professional experience, preferably in a like–kind field, such as investment management, real estate investment, banking, family office, or private equity.Strong financial background combined with strategic thinking. Integrity, discretion, and trustworthiness above reproach. Highest personal standards.Strong work ethic with a commitment to service and cultural alignment with a family office.Tax compliance experience, preferably in the tax practice of a public accounting firm. Good grasp of tax implications.Experience in a senior management role over finance and accounting reporting.Strong operational skills, budgeting skills, and knowledge of best practices.Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence and executive presence – ability to mentor, develop and motivate staff.Experience in treasury or cash management operations is preferred.Good understanding of finance and accounting IT preferred; IT conversion experience helpful.
