Becoming a Trainee Accountant with Capita Local Public Services

This role is part of a Finance Team, which supports the needs of the Collection and Payments business within Capita Local Government. The role of the team is to challenge the financial reporting and forecasting of the business, ensuring strong financial controls and procedures are in place, but also provide support and advice to the business via continual support to the operations teams.

The role of the Finance team is to provide strong financial support, management and robust challenge within the business, enabling the Profit Centre Managers to deliver their monthly Profit Centre information and reporting in a timely manner, help drive growth and improved profitability as well as aiding effective and efficient management of, and decision making across the business. The team will also ensure a strong financial control environment exists, and proactively support/police the adherence to Capita policies and procedures whilst encouraging continuous improvement.

What you will do:

Financial Management and Reporting
  • Provide reconciliations, and year on year variance analysis for the business under the direction of the Senior Financial Controller
  • Provision of management information that supports the business under the guidance and support of the Senior Financial Controller
  • Responsibility for specific cost centre reviews in conjunction with the Senior Financial Controller, challenging performance and ensure integrity of monthly forecasts within the forecasting system (Axiom)
  • Input into the production of monthly management accounts, within set deadlines, ensuring accurate reflection of financial performance and variances
  • Help Cost Centre Managers to drive growth, improved profitability, and operational resilience by utilisation and monitoring of appropriate management information, and provide challenge thereof
  • Assist with the annual Business Plan process helping Cost Centre Managers with the setting of stretching but achievable Business Plan forecasts
  • Support and review the balance sheet for parts of the business as directed by the Senior Financial Controller
  • Help assess, mitigate and manage business and financial risks

Your experience will include:

  • Reconciliation experience
  • Self-starter and pro-active
  • Part/Newly qualified AAT or similar
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent Communication skills

  • Axiom Experience
