Purpose of Job Develops, administers, and is accountable for a portion of the department s audit program and resources which provides the Finance and Audit Committee of the USAA Board of Directors, the CEO, and members of USAA management with independent, objective assurance services regarding the effectiveness and efficiency of the Association s governance, risk management, compliance and control processes, and in the course of providing those services, supports the Association s achievement of operational excellence.   • Provides support to line of business Audit Executive and may report periodically on the activities of Audit Services to Audit Committees of the various subsidiary boards
  • Establishes the Enterprise Risk Assessment identifying major lines of business audit risk assessment; understanding and applying risk assessment concepts and principles, identifying areas of risk and assigning appropriate risk ratings, assuring completeness and accuracy for audit coverage.
  • Serves as the primary Audit point of contact on various line of business Committee Meetings and leads Continuous Monitoring activities for these committee meetings to ensure information obtained in committee meetings is distributed vertically and horizontally within Audit Services.
  • Responsible for openly discussing business risks and controls with the line of business leadership; offering effective challenge in a professional manner.
  • Assures appropriate staffing (internal or external) and resources are available to execute the plan.
  • Performs special audits from management as requested.
  • Provides technical and ethical direction to audits that are sensitive, complex and/ or comprehensive in nature through discussions with staff.
  • Reviews draft reports for every audit in assigned area for appropriate detail and assures that professional standards are adhered to, actual time is compared to budgeted time, and that the audit report contains fully supported factual information.
  • Assures that appropriate follow up to audit observations is accomplished and reported.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of the direction of USAA through discussions with corporate officers and attendance at various management meetings, conferences, and Board of Directors meetings in order to integrate current risks into the audit plan.
  • Develops benchmarking information necessary to maintain an efficient and cost–effective department. Monitors department metrics.
  • Coordinates audits by the outside independent auditors and regulatory agencies, where applicable, to minimize the costs associated with such audits and participates in researching and resolving financial, operational, or regulatory problems identified.
  • Supports the CAE as well as line of business Audit Executive in preparing briefings for the USAA Finance & Audit Committee as scheduled on the activities of Audit Services.
  • Sets the agenda, builds high performing teams and sells the vision.

  • Builds enduring teams and processes that foster an environment to attract, develop and retain strong talent.
  • Bachelor s Degree OR 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • 10+years of internal audit, risk management, compliance, other control partner experience or relevant operations experience developing strategies, managing major initiatives and delivering results within a complex matrix environment.
  • 4+ years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high–performing teams.
  • Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions and managing work to achieve strategic goals.
  • Executive–level business acumen in the areas of Property and Casualty Insurance, Life Insurance, Sales Practices, Conduct Risk, or other industry practices and emerging trends required.
  • Deep personal lines P&C expertise with leadership experience in audit.
  • Subject matter expert in risk and/or compliance in personal lines P&C insurance.
  • Involvement in IT Audit initiatives.
  • Experience presenting to Board level leadership.
