Provide functional and technical mapping and project execution support for functional data systems, manage requirements from inception through training and enhancements/lifecycle of systems and integration planning. Provide internal technology expertise to key business functions, focusing on data capture, processing, reporting, analysis, and visualization and reporting tools (e.g. Qlik, Spotfire, Tableau) to drive technology use and investment forward in a strategic manner.


Business Technology Planning

• Support R&D–IT Business Relationship Managers and scientific leadership to Identify gaps in existing processes, determine disposition (major project, small project, enhancement) and provide recommendations for future process & technology improvements

• Build and maintain relationships with assigned customers

• Develop and continually strengthen deep knowledge of business and business processes for assigned areas

• Define business requirements, identify trends and gaps with existing processes, and recommend projects as input into the annual planning process

• Act as a workstream lead to ensure plans for data management, maintenance and reporting meet business requirements now and for the future

Business Technology Execution

• Elicit requirements for projects and enhancements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, user stories, process models, activity diagrams and workflow analysis, etc

• Understanding and ability to manage projects using both waterfall / traditional as well as different types of agile methodologies such as Kanban and Scrum

• Proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements and deliver artifacts as required by the project methodology

• Completes source to target, business rules, reporting, use process mapping and design

• Works with vendors to ensure reports, data integration and designs are efficient, scalable and contemporary

• Provide support to IT leaders in developing business benefits analysis and estimates for area of responsibility (business requirements, functional design, business processes, UAT)

• Translates requirements and processes into functional and technical data designs

• Conducts acceptance testing for data workstreams across multiple functional departments areas of support (e.g. business data integration)

• Serve as the conduit between the internal functional owner of data sources and the software development team(s) through which requirements flow and are designed, built and tested

• Provides creative solutions to data challenges, working closely with enterprise and IT teams in this space

• Ensure conceptual, functional, and technical designs will meet functional and non–functional requirements for projects and enhancements

• Understands the business processes associated with data and ensures the solutions are designed and built to meet client business requirements and long term single source of truth and supportability

• Support end–user technology training and communications


• Ability to collaborate with business functional leaders, across all levels in the business supported organization and with technologists, to define business processes, analyze operational efficiencies, implement creative solutions and measure delivery results

• Knowledgable in business process & requirements gathering from initiation through execution

• Experience with critical functional data and managment processes, and data integration

• Experience implementing and managing Qlik and Spotfire, or other visualization tools

• Collaborative, agile mindset to drive speedy, creative and efficient use of technology and data to drive business value across IT

• Total 4–6 years relevant business experience PLUS minimum of 2–3 years experience in data, business analyst or relevant IT project execution role. Experience leading small–midsize projects.

• Project management skills & managing master data experience a plus

• Ability to creatively and constructively challenge designs to ensure simpilicty and supportability

• Demonstrated business acumen

• Capable of translating and presenting concepts into practical business terms in both small and large group settings

• Ability to analyze and document complex data management processes

• Ability to think analytically, a proactive problem solver

• Ability to interpret relevant data and information

• Six Sigma, CBAP, and/or PBA certification a plus

• Create traceability matrices, test cases and test plans

• Elicit, gather, capture, analyze, document and refine requirements using JIRA and Confluence tools

Preferred Background (one or more of the following):

• Graduate degree in a life science–related discipline

• Life science laboratory research experience in a pharmaceutical or academic setting

• Experience with cell and molecular biology laboratory techniques and/or cell culture

• Experience with in vivo animal phenotyping experiments

• Experience with plate–based in vitro therapeutic candidate screening.

• Experience performing and/or optimizing high–throughput plate–based assays or experience programming liquid handling instruments

• Knowledge of and/or experience with the pharmaceutical drug discovery process

• Understanding of relational and/or noSQL database concepts

• Experience using or working with commercial LIMS, ELN, image analysis, data visualization, and/or SDMS software

• Familiarity with small molecule and/or biologics registration systems
