CORE FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of the Chief Accountant, the Temporary Accounting Clerk/Cashier is responsible for carrying out the Cashiering and Accounts related functions of the organization. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Planning Contribute to the Strategic Planning process for the Finance & Accounts Division; resulting in the Division's annual Strategic Plan and Budget aligned to the Commission's Strategic Plan. Annually update, in conjunction with the Chief Accountant, own Job Accountability and Performance Targets; ensuring alignment to the Commission's Strategic Plan. Develop, in conjunction with the Chief Accountant, own Individual Development Plan (IDP) following the Performance Review as per the Performance Management System. Execution Collect and receipt all monies received on behalf of the Commission Monitor all manual receipts to ensure that they are processed on a timely basis Ensure accurate and timely daily reconciliation of funds collected and receipts drawn Ensure daily settlement of the Point Of Sale machine and attach to the lodgment Prepare daily lodgment for review by the Supervisor, prior to dispatch by the armored bearer At all times, ensure the safe keeping of unused physical blank receipts in ones possession Maintain the timely and accurate assignment of General Ledger codes to each receipt generated Maintain the Cashier's Petty Cash float Prepare purchase orders as assigned Assist with filing of documents and records of the Finance & Accounts Division Ensure filing of receipts after reviewed by Supervisor Assist with the preparation of Audit Schedules and respond to related audit queries Reconcile licensees' statements and the Sub-ledgers with the General Ledger Provide cashiering advice and information as requested Ensure that all established procedures are followed Monitoring Contribute to the preparation of the Division's monthly performance report in the Balanced Scorecard format, by preparing own report and attend the monthly Department meeting to discuss performance, ensuring there are diagnoses and prognoses for any performance variances Make recommendations for improving controls in the Cashiering process as relevant QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) / Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) Level IV or equivalent qualification. Two (2) years experience as an Accounting Clerk/Cashier in a comparable organization. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES Ability to identify relevant information and help to transform the information into individual and organizational knowledge and learning.
