Maternity Cover Credit Controller required to join an exciting Law Firm in the City of London. It will be your role to conduct the collection of outstanding debtors for a designated industry group (Shipping) and clients. This is a proactive role, supporting the Credit Manager in seeking to achieve and maintain optimum debtor days.

Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

? Building and maintaining positive and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and networks to facilitate and improve the firm’s debt cycle in relation to the designated industry group and to support the Credit Manager in doing so on a firm-wide basis.

? Establishing constructive working relationships with partners to discuss and agree collection strategy on all outstanding invoices.

? Liaising with clients on a daily basis, chasing overdue invoices, sending statements, resolving queries by telephone and in writing, knowing which medium of communication is most appropriate, and ensuring all follow-ups are actioned at the correct point in time.

? Maintaining records of chasing activity in a timely, concise and accurate manner.

? Identifying changes in payment patterns and proposing action to avert indebtedness.

? Recognising potential risks to the firm and escalating any issues in a timely manner.

? Ensuring credit control standard routines and tasks are followed in line with the firm’s policies and procedures, meeting cash and debtor day targets set by the firm.

? Applying commercial logic in order to advise the business on best practice to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of collection procedures in order to obtain the maximum financial benefit for the firm.

? Undertaking regular reviews of debtor balances to identify write-offs.

? Liaising with Legal Cashiers regarding the allocation of receipts, and with the Revenue team regarding credit notes and re-issued invoices in order to confirm the accuracy of the information used in financial analysis and reporting.

? Preparation of reconciliations/ ad hoc reports, applying intermediate Excel functionality as necessary, to provide timely and relevant information.

? Providing support and guidance to fee earners and PAs within the firm.

? Any other ad hoc task that may be required.

Key Skills & Experience Required

? A minimum of 2 years' credit control experience within a professional services environment.

? Experience with P&I clubs / insurers advantageous.

? Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills; tactful and diplomatic.

? A robust individual, capable of challenging existing practices and ensuring bills are paid whilst maintaining a polite and professional approach.

? Intellectual credibility and confidence to communicate effectively with staff and clients, providing collaborative support and constructive challenge as appropriate.

? Proactive self-starter, able to use prioritise workload.

? Numerate and IT literate, with exposure to Excel and Elite 3E practice management system ideal.

? Highly client focused.

? Knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules.

? Familiarity with accounting procedures, client ledgers, disbursements and office accounts.

This is a great opportunity that could become more permanent. Salary is dependent upon experience.
