The Role Responsibilities


The purpose of this role is to act as the key finance partner to the Group CIO. The principal deliverable is to set and implement a strategy for Technology & Innovation ("T&I") that delivers targeted cost and productivity performance outcomes over the multi-year horizon of the Corporate Plan.

T&I is a 17,000 person, $2bn organisation that provides end to end run and change technology solutions for the bank. It includes SC Ventures, the group's innovation catalyst. Technology is a fast-paced environment impacted by transforming delivery models such as cloud hosting and software as a service, emerging cyber security threats and new technologies and ways of working.

Key to the success of the role is to build a strong reputation as a trusted advisor at the most senior level of the organisation, providing insightful advice and an independent voice to constructively challenge decisions. Strong communication skills are required to act as a bridge between technology and the finance function to optimise decisions and align spend to IT and enterprise strategies.

Strategy and Business

  • Support the Group CIO and their MT in setting a multi-year strategy that delivers targeted cost and productivity performance outcomes

  • Align performance management measures to drive implementation of the strategy
  • Partner with T&I to source relevant MI and interpret this to support optimal, material decision making
  • Use commercial acumen and understanding of cost drivers and industry benchmarks to identify cost and productivity opportunities
  • Provide robust, independent financial advice that drives cost performance outcomes, balancing short term targets with long term strategic objectives
  • Ensure financial information in papers presented to MT and board are relevant and accurate
  • Provide or facilitate provision of financial support to SC Ventures
  • Partner with T&I to develop and deploy cost transparency solution




Processes

  • Provide standardised, monthly cost performance management reporting

  • Lead communication on the Corporate Plan, Forecast and other Finance processes to ensure T&I is appropriately engaged and represented and understand and own the outcomes
  • As Accountable CFO, sign off on appropriateness of HC and costs in the Corporate Plan and Forecast processes, benefits realisation on the T&I investment portfolio, financial and non-financial Scorecard metrics and any spend approval processes introduced from time to time
  • Global owner of process for technology accruals and performance management and financial recharges
  • Drive operational excellence such as report standardisation, simplification of recharges and creation and adoption of digital MI
  • Support Functions Finance business partners in delivering at service levels set out in the Functions Finance target operating model




People and Talent

  • Sponsor remote located Functions Finance support teams to deliver a seamless service or process, within the location strategy set out in the Functions Finance target operating model

  • Coach Functions Finance staff to build the team's analytical capability and to create a business partnership mindset
  • Employ, engage and retain high quality people, with succession planning for critical roles.
  • Ensure that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles and that effective supervision is in place and appropriate ongoing training and development is available.
  • Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives.
