JOB TITLE: Chief Accountant DEPARTMENT: Accounts LOCATION: Kingston REPORTS TO (TITLE): CEO Primary objective of the job: The Chief Accountant is responsible for managing the company's assets and ensuring that financial statements are accurately stated in keeping with applicable accounting standards and generally accepted accounting principles Main Duties and Responsibilities: • Supervise and appraise accounting staff and prepare personal development plans where necessary • Generate and analyze monthly and annual financial statements • Approve invoices, journals, receipts inputted unto Great Plains Accounting Software • Check admin lodgments and approve entry into accounting software • Review and approve reconciliations • Review and approve journals generated • Approve cheque requisitions • Accounting Policies and Procedures Documentation • Ensure proper segregation of duties in the accounting systems • Bank Balances and Credit Card Management • Prepare Annual and monthly budgets • Prepare and submit Monthly Accounting Checklist • Determining the monthly cost and sales factor • Liaise with external auditors for the timely delivery of audited financial statements Ensure accounting records are maintained in keeping with applicable accounting standards • Generate Invoices • Generate Payroll for Monthly Executive staff • Prepare Monthly recons of Payroll • Prepare annual Budget • Ensure that Statutory Deductions are paid over on time to the relevant agencies. • Ensure that General Consumption Tax payments are made on time. • Monitor and control bank balances to avoid accounts going into overdraft. • Perform other similar duties as directed Job Requirements and Minimum qualifications: • BSc. Degree in Finance or ACCA accreditation • Five (5) years' experience in retail accounting and inventory management • Ability to successfully demonstrate use of Accounting and inventory software and systems. • Above average skill in using Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Power Point • Sound knowledge of the accounting and auditing principles. • Fully functional motor vehicle
