Job Summary:

The main objective of the role is to support the operations and finance team in the accurate maintenance of inventory levels, ensuring adherence to Corporate Accounting Policies and maintaining Sarbanes Oxley Key Controls. A key element of the role will be to identify and drive process improvements to enable improved accuracy of inventory accounts, and to be a key player in the cycle and wall–to–wall inventory count processes. The role will also support the Grass Valley GlobalFP&A team in providing insightful analysis of manufacturing variances vs. budget. Due to the dynamic nature of the business there will be the opportunity for the successful candidate to grow and develop the role.


The Cost Accountant will have responsibility for:

Maintaining, reviewing and analysing the standard costs of production. Assisting with the preparation of the standard cost budget and calculation of overhead absorption rates.

Providinganalysis of cost and manufacturing variances, working closely with the operations team to ensure issues are understood and appropriate, timely action taken.

Working with the manufacturing team to ensure inventory records are accurately maintained, including monitoring of cycle counts and cycle count adjustments.

Playing a key role in the annual full inventory count, ensuring count variances are investigated and understood.

Evaluating inventory provisions, ensuring adequate provisions are maintained in the accounts and are in line with Group policy. Working with the operations team to ensure that slow moving inventory lines are addressed.

Supporting the manufacturing team in evaluating inventory reduction initiatives.

Assisting in improvements to internal controls related to inventory, ensuring compliance with applicable Sarbanes Oxley controls.

Managing the month end close for inventory, ensuring appropriate journals are booked and maintaining balance sheetreconciliations in line with Corporate requirements and timetable.

Assist with statutory audit preparation and dealing with auditor queries.

–Support the operations and finance team in the migration from QAD to SAPduring 2019

Required Skills and Experience
  • Previous proven cost accounting experience within a manufacturing business is essential
  • CIMA/AC/ACCA qualified
  • Strong MS Excel skills
  • Change oriented – strong desire to bring about continuous improvements to systems and processes
  • QAD and/or SAP experience desirable
