Summary:

Are you an energetic and experienced Finance Controller with experience in managing company finances and funding for growth? Are you commercially minded and personable with a passion for working within an ethical food distributor? One of the UK’s leading vegan and vegetarian sales, marketing and distribution businesses is looking for an ambitious and motivated Finance Controller to work with the Senior Management Team and play a leading role in leading the finance team and continuing the growth of their award winning business. You will be working in a fast moving retail environment and be responsible for taking charge of the sales and purchase ledger, general and fixed asset ledgers and all vat reporting including Intrastat and EC sales. You will also work closely with both the sales and buying teams to provide insightful analysis into all cost of sales ensuring that all targets are achieved for all FMCG products within the range.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Complete monthly management accounts pack and KPI dashboard for group submission.
  • Collate analytical review data for profit and loss account
  • Reconciliation of nominal ledger accounts with supporting schedules to comply with group reporting manual and requirements.
  • Ensure HMRC compliance with relation to PAYE, VAT returns, EC Intrastat and deferment duty
  • Oversee and manage finance and Credit Control personnel within the department including development and appraisal planning
  • Compile forecasts and other reports on a weekly, monthly and ad hoc basis
  • Margin analysis and forecasting, by product through reports and liaison with sales and warehouse teams
  • Quarterly board presentation preparation
  • Preparing the year-end accounts pack for the auditors are complete and up to date.
  • Oversee payroll preparation, completed by retained accountants
  • Monitor the cashflow daily reporting
  • Manage the budget process, identifying targets and monitor business performance against them reporting on variances and identifying ways to minimise excess variances
  • Reconcile the company’s bank accounts and maintain the domestic and currency invoice discounting facilities on a daily basis.
  • Reconcile the balance sheet accounts to ensure that postings are accurate and reflect the Company’s true position.
  • Use financial modelling to assess the potential effect of any new product opportunities (NPD) or developments affecting the business
  • Manage the Company’s treasury maximising liquidity and ensuring adequate resources to operate to plan sufficiently
  • Support the Senior Management Team and assist with strategic business decisions
  • Proactively look for relevant funding for new projects – looking at external sources of finance (grants, investors, bank funding) and look for M&A potential activity that compliments the portfolio and delivers strategic growth

Required Skills & Experience:
  • Experience within a similar financial role and an understanding of the FMCG food and drink UK market
  • Excellent commercial, analytical and presentation skills
  • Proactive in developing and maintaining customer relationships
  • A professional and positive manner to create excellent customer rapport
  • Must demonstrate a high level of numeracy and solid data analysis and presentation skills on MS Excel and Power Point
  • A high level of fluency in English, both spoken and written, enabling the necessary direct business communication with all customers and suppliers
  • Must lead by example and empower people to make positive changes
  • Proactive and willing to diplomatically challenge ways of working
