GROUP SERVICES ACCOUNTANT (Maternity cover) 12 months

SALARY £31,345 TO £41,396 (DEPENDING ON SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE)

Role

The Group Finance team supports the Group by providing consolidated Group financial information which enables senior management in their decision making processes for the benefit of the Group as a whole and also providing financial support services to all Corporate support functions, including IT, HR and Procurement. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Accountant based in Perth on a fixed term basis to cover a period of maternity leave.

You will be responsible for provision of all finance support services to Corporate Functions including Procurement and IT, covering month end processes, budgeting and forecasting. You will also be responsible for the accurate and timely delivery of all Group-level internal and external reporting requirements, including production of monthly Board finance reports and consolidation of Group forecasts and Budget in relation to capital expenditure and investment. This will include performance improvement, delivery of a robust financial control framework. You will also be responsible for ensuring a consistent approach to reporting of financial information and compliance with all Group policies and procedures in respect of capital accounting and financial control.

Key Accountabilities

Your responsibilities will extend to the production of reporting to the Large Capital Projects Committee. You will ensure consistent application of SSE accounting policy requirements around capitalisation and depreciation, including qualifying expenditure, development assets, capitalised interest and intra-Group transactions and respond to ad hoc requests from senior Finance management, business managers and other finance teams.

You will embrace the SSE core values and actively engage in the Safety Family and you will develop existing processes to drive efficiencies to allow more time for value adding activities.

Knowledge, skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you should be a qualified accountant (ICAS, ACCA, CIMA or other recognised professional body). You will have the ability to work on your own initiative and should be able to work as part of a team and have excellent organisational skills.

You should have excellent communication skills and be comfortable dealing with senior management (both finance and non finance) up to Executive Director level. You should have the ability to work to tight deadlines with a flexible approach to working, and should have a good working knowledge of Oracle and Microsoft products.
