Change Recruitment Services have been instructed to source a Head of Finance for an Academy with schools across Somerset. Working out of the central office, you will lead a team of 3 in accounts and report directly into the executive board. You will be responsible for maintaining and developing finance systems, as well as ensuring regular and robust financial reports are completed.

Some of the main duties for this role include:
  • The development and implementation of a financial strategy that will ensure financial viability of the business and enable it to operate in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Provide leadership and management of the finance team, and external providers ensuring the continual delivery of excellent financial services.
  • Represent the business internally and externally on financial matters, providing advice and guidance where necessary
  • Contribute to the continuing operation of outstanding financial controls and financial standards throughout the business.
  • Lead on the preparation and delivery of the quarterly management accounts.
  • Lead on the preparation and delivery of the annual financial statutory accounts and audit file for the year end audit and liaise with the auditor.
  • Provide professional financial advice and practical support in relation to business projects.
  • Provide support to business managers in the preparation of annual budgets, monitoring of actual costs against budget during the year, investigating variances, instigating remedial measures and forecasting the year end outturn.
  • Provide cash flow forecasts and make recommendations around cash management to the Board.
  • Provide VAT advice and oversee the preparation and submission of VAT returns for the Ltd Company and its subsidiary.
  • Oversee the operations of the payroll and pensions administration.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the Fixed Asset register.
  • Monitor and reconcile all income received.
  • Oversee the operation of the bank accounts.
  • Any other duties reasonably requested by the Chief Operating Officer

The ideal candidate will be:
  • ACCA, ACA, CIMA Qualified
  • Highly proficient in It Systems including MS Excel
  • An excellent communicator with presentation skills
  • Able to lead development/change within a finance function and throughout the wider business
