Are you an experienced, innovative grant maker, an expert in global development or a development consultant? Are you passionate about working with philanthropists to deliver sustained impact for children around the world? We are looking for an APAC Philanthropic Program Director in the UBS Optimus Foundation.

The role includes responsibility for:

– shaping and growing UBS Optimus Foundation work in Asia, during the dynamic start-up phase of the Singapore office, working closely with the global UBS Optimus Program team and the Singapore and Hong Kong Global Wealth Management Philanthropy Services team
– active member of a team shaping the strategy and portfolio management of grant making and social finance in the Asia region including child focused grants in education, health and child protection
– creating a pipeline of innovative, best practice grants
– designing and developing a pipeline of social finance products, either as direct investments in social enterprises or outcomes based funding mechanisms.
– performance management of Asia grant portfolios to the full impact potential, work closely with grantee partners to build capacity and disseminate successes and learnings.
– partnering with client philanthropists to provide foundation management support, including foundation strategy, pipeline and portfolio management
– representing the UBS Optimus Foundation in the Asia region and maintaining expertise on key sector developments, research and policy

Your team
You'll be working in the Singapore office of the UBS Optimus Foundation, an award-winning, expert grant-making foundation that helps UBS clients use their wealth to drive positive social change for children. In 2017 UBS Optimus Foundation granted around CHF 60m to programs in child health, education and child protection around the world, predominantly in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. UBS-OF is expanding and opening a new office in Singapore in 2019.

The APAC Philanthropic Program Director role is crucial to Optimus' success in improving children's lives. The role is responsible for developing a high impact portfolio of interventions, new and innovative models of social change, liaising with donors and representing UBS-OF externally with many stakeholders. You will be part of a small entrepreneurial team shaping and growing Optimus's work in Singapore and the Asia region. In Asia, you will be working closely with the Director of Asia Programs in Hong Kong and team, and Global Wealth Management Philanthropy Services team in Asia. You will also be closely connected to the global programs team based in London, Zurich and New York.

Your expertise
You have:
– at least 10 years' work experience. Significant portion of work experience in international development in Asia
– degree or PhD in international development, MBA or in UBS Optimus Foundation relevant topics
– significant experience and networks in the area of global development, especially in the Asia region
– track record of successfully delivering a multi-partner initiative in area of global development
– experience in impact investing and/or results-based funding
– may have previous experience working with private philanthropists or private investors, or in management consulting
– grant-making and/or program management experience
– good understanding of innovations and best practices in foundation management and good grant-making
– demonstrated managerial skills

You are:
– entrepreneurial and excited to work in a start-up phase of an organization, comfortable with uncertainty
– a strong analytical and qualitative problem-solver; able to quickly get up to speed on a new area, identify issues and key focus areas
– comfortable working with a wide range of partners including UBS Optimus colleagues, UBS bank colleagues, clients, grantees and other development stakeholders
– team-oriented, flexible working style, able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
– desirous to work in a dynamic, cooperative environment in which there is an emphasis on teamwork, adaptability, and continuous learning and improvement
– possessing a superior work ethic; willing to work in a high demand environment both proactively and independently
– willing to travel 25%-35%
– fluent in English and 1 or more Asian languages
