This is a pivotal role within the organisation and for the Finance and Resources team. The post holder has a key role in working with the Head of Finance to provide general finance and accountancy support to the organisation and be the lead finance resource on donor reporting and management accounts. The post holder will also be responsible for the management of the Finance and Administration Officer.

Duties and responsibilities:

Project Accounting

• To ensure donor applications meet Anti–Slavery International's requirements for cost recovery and advise the senior management team on the financial risks to the organisation, such as match funding requirements, prior to submission

• To work with the Programme and Advocacy Team to ensure that all projects are set up with correct codes, budgets and financial monitoring plans

• To maintain and run accurate project recharge schedules

• To post entries for all partners costs and reconcile with project monitoring reports

• To make international payments to partners upon receipt of forward spending plans

• To provide financial reports on projects and, in collaboration with the Programme and Advocacy Team, to develop and submit accurate reports to donors

• To advise the Programme and Advocacy Team on financial donor compliance issues

• To agree significant re–forecasts and budget reallocations to partners with the Programme and Advocacy Team, escalating to senior management if there are organisational risks

Management Accounting

• To produce monthly management accounts

• To produce monthly cash flow forecasts

• To assist the Head of Finance and Resources to develop the organisation's budget

• To assist the Head of Finance and Resources to close the year end

• To provide draft year end statements for restricted project funds

• To assist with year end income and expenditure forecasting

Monitoring and Control

• To ensure that all budget holders have timely and accurate information and that budgets are correctly monitored

• To ensure action is taken to address variations and significant variations are reported to the Head of Finance and Resources

• To work with the Head of Finance and Resources to ensure that appropriate controls and systems are in place

• Oversee Payroll and pensions processing to ensure compliance with Anti–Slavery International's policy and relevant legislation

Financial Accounting

• To take overall responsibility for the accounting system and its integrity

• To prepare general ledger journal entries as necessary

• To review coding of purchase invoices

• To review all the bank and petty cash reconciliations

• To reconcile all debtor and creditor accounts.

• To reconcile project restricted fund balances quarterly to the records held by the programmes department and the balances shown on donor reports

Management

• Manage the work of the Finance and Administration Officer

• Deputise for the Head of Finance and Resources.

• Service the Finance Committee, including preparing reports and taking minutes

• Undertake other duties as required

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Criteria

• Qualified CIMA / ACCA / ACA

• Knowledge of SORP

• Experience of producing management accounts

• Experience of budget preparation

• Experience of producing financial reports and budget monitoring statements

• Experience of maintaining financial controls

• Experience or knowledge of charity fund accounting and overhead cost recovery

• Experience of dealing with international transactions

• Experience of managing staff

• Good working knowledge of accounting software, ideally Exchequer

• Excellent administrative and IT skills, including fluency in Microsoft Office software, especially Excel

• Highly numerate

• Excellent organisational, prioritisation and time management skills

• Ability to work on own initiative and take ownership

• Excellent communication skills

• Self–motivated

• Excellent team player

• Ability to deal with and solve different situations

• Good attention to detail

Desirable Criteria

• Experience of working with a Board of Trustees

• Interest in human rights and development issues especially those relating to slavery
