Staff Accountant – Carlsbad, CA Office–based Who We Are Synteract is a global full–service contract research organization with a successful three–decade track record supporting biotechnology, medical device and pharmaceutical companies. Position Overview Performs a key role in preparation of accurate and timely financial reports and business information. Ensures appropriate accounting control procedures for both parent company and other foreign and domestic subsidiaries. Supports high volume processing of invoices, expense reports and other accounts payable documents in an accurate, consistent and timely manner, compliant with company accounting policies, practices and procedures. Performs miscellaneous tasks in support of the Accounting department, as necessary. Specific tasks would include: Financial Reporting Integral to ensuring timely preparation of journal entries, accruals, expense allocations, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts for the month–end close process. Prepares balance sheet reconciliations for the holding company and other corporate legal entities. Responsible for components of the month–end consolidation, intercompany billing transactions, and critical accounting controls. Provides key assistance and support with year–end external audits. Accounts Payable Code, match, enter, and batch vendor invoices for posting. Ensures that invoices are properly approved and have a purchase order when applicable. Review non–billable expense reports for proper coding, amounts, support, and that they follow the Company's expense guidelines. Process checks and ACH batches, including printing and mailing checks, preparing wires, uploading ACH batches to the bank's portal, and emailing remittance advices. Pay vendors with credit cards when applicable. Reconcile the credit card vendor sub–ledger on a monthly basis. Reconcile the accounts payable sub–ledger to the general ledger. Reconcile the accrued but unpaid contractors hours/cost to the general ledger. Research and resolve accounts payable disputes with vendors in a competent and professional manner. Report any concerns and/or recommendations for improvements and efficiencies in Accounts Payable processes. Ensure that all invoices are entered in the system for monthly closing and prepare appropriate accruals. Prepare, print, and mail 1099 to vendors. Complete Form 1096 for filing with the Internal Revenue Service. Fixed Assets Maintains fixed asset system by recording fixed asset acquisitions and disposals and generates fixed asset reports as necessary. Prepares monthly depreciation journal entries. Enforces controls and assists with managing CAPEX spend and capitalization of internal labor. Treasury and Cash Management Manages petty cash account including the handling of cash, coding receipts, and preparing the replenishment request. Reconcile gift cards to the general ledger and process requests for purchase of cards. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field of study and 5+ years related experience. Intermediate knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable financial laws, codes and regulations. Intermediate level MS Excel skills; proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, and Internet Explorer. Experince in Dynamics AX preferred. Must possess a professional demeanor, able to interact effectively with employees at all levels. Must take initiative; be self–directed, and adept at problem solving.
