My client is an established Accountancy Practice based in Zone 1. They are active in their search for a Deputy Payroll Manager to join the business on a permanent basis.

To be considered it is ESSENTIAL that you have experience in an accountancy or a payroll bureau background and STAR software experience

They will consider candidates that have been working in a Team Lead capacity who are looking at Payroll Management as the next step in their career.

Job Purpose

Operational management of the team's activities to ensure that all work is completed promptly, accurately, to high standards and meeting user needs to improve the performance

Day to day:

Control of the team's day–to–day operational activities
Management of the Payroll team, providing mentoring, development and support to staff.
Contributes to definition of Key Performance Indicators, monitors standards and productivity and manages change when necessary.
Key contact for ongoing relationships
Identify and implement changes to processes to improve the service to users.
Interpretation of financial information and provision of advice to senior managers.
Influencing managers and staff to adhere to policies and procedures, improve business practices and adopt new procedures where appropriate.

Key Responsibilites

Management of team, performance management cycle, mentoring and providing support and guidance for team members.
Responsible for the day to day operation of the team and delivery of an efficient service.
Ensure that internal procedures and processes are regularly reviewed and updated and documented as necessary.
Ensure compliant with HMRC legislation around statutory payments/deductions and taxable benefits.
Good understanding of UK payroll requirements
Contribute to sound internal financial controls by identifying risks and ensuring that relevant controls are put in place to mitigate
Identify and implement changes to processes and systems to improve the service to users.
Interpretation of financial information and provision of advice to senior managers.

Skills Required
About you:

Substantial payroll experience and knowledge
Payroll qualified CIPP ( preferred)
Drive to deliver continual improvement
Staff and resource management skills and experience
Excellent planning skills and ability to meet deadlines
A high degree of self–motivation and willingness to take initiative
Good knowledge of payroll and expenses systems
Innovative, flexible and adaptable
Hands on problem solving of a range of issues
Good IT skills
Drive to achieve results

Qualifications Required
Relevant payroll experience in an accountancy or bureau environment
CIPP qualification desirable
