ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY The Jamaica National Group Limited is seeking to hire an exceptional attorney for the position of Legal Counsel, reporting directly to the Group General Counsel. The position will provide legal advice and support focused principally on the JN Group's operations, including contracts, employment, policies, governance, and regulatory issues. The ideal candidate will be a corporate generalist and have a strong background in diverse areas of the law, either in-house or at a top-tier law firm. The Legal Counsel will be assisting with corporate global strategic and tactical legal initiatives. Legal Counsel will assist the General Counsel in providing senior management with effective advice on company strategies and their implementation, manage the legal function, and obtain and oversee the work of outside counsel and will be involved in business transactions in negotiating contracts. JOB CATEGORY: MANAGER KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Advise corporation and subsidiaries based locally and overseas on issues relating to real estate developments, leasing, and corporate relations with general public. Prepare leases, commercial vendor contracts and other consultant contracts and administers other legal matters Participate in the definition and development of corporate policies, procedures and programs and provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters. Serve as legal advisor on real estate developments. Judge the merits of court cases filed against or on behalf of entities within the JN Group, work with the appropriate executive(s) or outside counsel to define direction and approve settlements of disputes where warranted. Assist relevant executives with ensuring that the organisation conducts its business in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Assist on the selection, retention, management and evaluation of outside counsel. General contracts, Third Party agreements, vendor supplier relationships. Advise on issues related to employment law, contracts, claims, devising company policies, trademarks, patents, Intellectual property, and trade secrets. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE A Law degree and Legal Education Certificate issued by Norman Manley Law School or equivalent institution. Other combinations will be considered At least ten years demonstrating progressively more senior transactional or international negotiating, drafting and counseling experience, either in-house or at a top-tier law firm.
