Job Description

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Overall Responsibility
  1. Set the Company Life's finance strategy
  2. Decision support and financial leadership to Board of Directors, the Company Life's Exco, management and staff.
  3. Management of the Company's long and short term financial planning
  4. Management and financial reporting to both internal and external stakeholders including the, Company Exco, the Insurance Regulatory Authority and the Board
  5. Ensure financial controls and disciplines are in place.
  6. Management of the Company's Tax affairs.
  7. Capital Management and regulatory reporting
  8. Maintenance of a management information system, including the GL that adequately meets and addresses business needs.
  9. Liaison with the External Auditors, Tax regulators and the IRA.

Key Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Participate in setting country strategy and objectives
  2. Setting the Company finance strategy and objectives.
  3. Providing financial leadership to the Company Life.
  4. Reviewing and implementing sound financial accounting policies to achieve company's strategic objectives
  5. Preparing accurate and timely financial reports to aid management decision making
  6. Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial performance reviews.
  7. Managing, reviewing and timely reporting of the monthly financial results, quarterly, half-year and year-end reporting ensuring that all reporting deadlines are met.
  8. Monitoring revenue and expenditures, making recommendations and appropriate action to ensure sound financial controls
  9. Providing cost and benefit analysis to support all significant decisions in the Company.
  10. Maintain the integrity of the Company's financial information.
  11. Written and oral reporting of strategic and financial issues to the Company's Executive Committee and the Board of Directors
  12. Managing the budgeting and planning process including forecasting.
  13. Regulatory reporting to the Insurance Regulatory Authority.
  14. Capital management, maximising profit and return on capital.
  15. Playing the lead role in and managing the implementation of financial policies, procedures, and controls that are consistent with the rest of the Group.
  16. Overseeing the management information system and ensuring that it adequately addresses business needs.
  17. Managing the taxation affairs of the Company.
  18. Managing the annual statutory audit process.
  19. Setting the framework for developing a value adding finance function that provides customer focused finance solutions to business problems.
  20. Liaison with external auditors, Group Internal Audit.
  21. Playing a leading role in coaching and developing the finance team.


  • B.Com (Accounting/Finance).
  • ACCA/CPA (K)
  • MBA

  • In depth understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • An understanding of Kenyan Taxation regulations.
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of personal computers and software packages such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access. Working knowledge of Sun Accounting System
  • Knowledge of the Kenyan Finance Sector Regulations
  • Good communication and presentation skills at a senior level
  • Strategic planning and management experience
  • Experience in change management and the ability to positively lead change
  • Experience in budgeting and Strategic financial planning

REMUNERATION: 300K + other benefits
