Job Description
Accountability:
As Senior manager/Associate Director/Director of IFRS 17 & Accounting Projects, the candidate will be responsible for supporting Manulife implementation of IFRS 17 "Insurance Contracts" in Asia. The implementation of IFRS 17 is part of Manulife's global program to begin parallel reporting using this new accounting standard in 2020.

IFRS 17 will require insurers to present their financial information from a whole new perspective that brings greater comparability and transparency about the profitability of our insurance businesses. Implementing IFRS 17 is a huge undertaking requiring coordination between Finance, Actuarial, and IT to upgrade systems, processes, and controls. It also offers us the opportunity to gain new insights into our businesses and improve process efficiency.

The candidate is also expected to support accounting analysis for other strategic initiatives and issues for Manulife Asia.

Responsibilities:
-Serve as part of the Asia IFRS 17 implementation team and assist with strategy and solution identification as it relates to Manulife Asia.
-Collaborate with Finance, Actuarial and IT to review the current end to end financial reporting process and identify required changes to systems, processes and controls.
-Collaborate with Asian business units on identifying the local implementation issues and liaise with corporate IFRS 17 taskforce to solve issues and stream the process.
-Support accounting education and training.
-Support and complete other accounting analysis, special projects and analyses, as requested.

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies:
-Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA required.
-Prior insurance industry or financial services experience required.
-Advanced knowledge of IFRS accounting standards is a plus.
-8 years of accounting/finance experience.
-Prior supervisory experience and project management experience preferred but not required.
-Understanding of reinsurance, risk and control is a strong plus.
-Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
-Strong written and oral communication skills.
-Must be a team player, self-starter, well-organized, innovative, and possess a high level of initiative.
-Demonstrated ability to work independently and establish priorities to meet tight deadlines.
-Ability to work in a complex financial environment.
-Exercise and demonstrate sound professional judgment.
