Michael Page Finance are pleased to be working with a Public Sector organisation based in North Bristol, to appoint a Financial Accounting Manager in to their team on a 12 month fixed term contract.

Description

To provide financial accounting management and support that meets the needs of each organisation, while being fully compliant with relevant accounting standards (including HM Treasury's Financial Reporting Manual).

The post is being recruited to on a 1-year fixed term basis, to provide cover while the permanent post-holder is on secondment.

Key Work Areas:

Work collaboratively within the Financial Accounting team, with particular focus as follows:

  • Management of two members of staff; the Capital Accounting Officer and the Financial Accounting Officer.
  • Reviewing monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts, prepared by the Capital Accounting Officer and Financial Accounting Officer, and ensuring timely identification and resolution of reconciling items.
  • Providing advice and guidance to colleagues regarding adherence with financial accounting standards and internal guidance.
  • Co-ordinating the interim and year-end accounts preparation process, including preparing working papers and the initial draft accounts.
  • Liaising with internal and external audit, including providing evidence to support sample testing.
  • Completion of financial accounting data requests.
  • Contributing to the continual improvement of financial accounting processes and systems.

Prepare for the implementation of significant new accounting standard - IFRS 16 Leases.

Profile

  • Full member of a CCAB accountancy body.
  • Experience with International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Experience of the application of Accounting Standards in a real-world environment.
  • Full working knowledge of the requirements of financial accounting control processes, including familiarity with the principles and practice behind balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Full working knowledge of finance systems, including knowledge of data extraction and validation techniques
  • Competent IT user with experience of MS Excel.
  • Demonstrate a proven track record as a qualified accountant producing annual financial accounts.
  • In particular, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and practical experience of:

    • finance systems.
    • analysing transactions, identifying and correcting errors.
    • ensuring compliance with financial accounting policies and procedures.
