Commercial Financial Controller

About the Team 

Our Online business has a £2bn turnover, achieved through several channels; NEXT product sold in the UK, third-party brands sold in the UK and our overseas business that now operates in over 75 countries. As the Commercial Financial controller you will be at the heart of the financial reporting of the business and driving investment decisions to support profitable growth across all revenue streams. You will be responsible for managing a large team through a period of rapid change and expansion.

Reporting into you, will be four finance managers who are responsible for Brand Trade reporting, Online marketing and overhead costs, Online Overseas and our branded business, LABEL. Each manager is supported by a team of analysts and assistants. In total, the team comprises 4 managers and 12 analysts.

About the Role

You will:

• Be responsible for reporting the performance and profitability of our Online business by revenue stream and play a key role in supporting high profile business decisions around investment in marketing, systems and infrastructure.
• Identify areas for potential sales and margin improvement and work with the relevant business areas to implement new initiatives. You’ll maintain strong financial controls, overseeing the preparation of the P&L and balance sheet for Online cost areas.
• On a monthly basis, summarise and review financial performance of the business, reforecasting where necessary. Every 6 months you will set out detailed financial budgets for future seasons and will be actively involved in the preparation of external reports, commentary and presentations which will form part of our Annual / Half Year Statements and City Presentations.
• Lead a team of Finance Managers and Analysts who provide financial information to stakeholders across the business to support their decision making.
• Provide Commercial and Financial support to the business and leading discussions, promoting change, challenge and driving business improvements.

About You

• Qualified Accountant with previous experience working at a similar level and ideally business partnering experience within an Online or Marketing area.
• Have strong financial controls and disciplines whilst working in a commercial environment.
• Strong technical experience including financial modelling and presenting to senior management and Directors.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to managed and motivate a team are essential.
• Have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
