The Associate Director, Adviser to Managing Director Sustainable Infrastructure, is responsible for providing support, or taking the lead, on a range of management, strategic and operational topics related to the activities of the Business Group. The key objective of the role is to work with the MD and support the MD on the effective and efficient delivery of the business, in particular ensuring the quality of the output of the Group, day-to-day functioning of the Business Group and co-ordination with other departments/units in the Bank and external stakeholders.
Reporting to the MD, it is expected that the Adviser will have a high commitment to the Bank's mandate and institutional goals combined with the ability to foster an environment conducive to technical excellence, lead/contribute to strategic thinking for the Bank and its sectors and/or countries, and provide leadership with a consistent approach towards staff, clients and shareholders.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Business Development & Country visits
- Assist, in conjunction with the Business Development (BD) team, planning and design of marketing and business development efforts to help and support in expansion of business links and contacts;
- Work with BD to coordinate and prepare for the MD's attendance and participation in business development events outside the Bank and represent the Bank at such events from time to time as delegated;
- Ensure regular reporting concerning business development activities and promote/facilitate the business development information/knowledge internally.
- Identify and prepare, in conjunction with the Directors, MD visits to countries of operations and client meetings.
External Relations & Strategic Work
- Assist the MD in representing the Bank in external events such as the Energy Transitions Commission, the World Economic Forum, Global Infrastructure Forum, Investment Fora etc.
- Organise panels and conferences related to Sustainable Infrastructure, including at the Annual Meeting or other key events.
- Co-ordinate and prepare briefing notes and speeches and assure their quality and timely delivery to the MD.
- Liaise with other units on regular reporting activities such as Annual Report, Sustainability Report, etc. and collate and/or prepare, review and finalise input from the Business Group;
- Ensure that the MD is adequately informed and briefed on relevant policy dialogue initiatives and country or sector strategies and their impact on the Business Group. This includes co-ordinating the Briefing Note process for the President's office and the CSG VPs and ensure consistency and quality of output for various meetings, including the Bank's Annual Meeting, the IMF/WB Spring & Autumn meetings, WEF, etc.
- Co-ordinate as necessary with the First Vice President, COO, CSG and VP3 front offices to ensure the Client Services Group is appropriately represented at, and/or provides input into all matters before Management and Board committees.
Portfolio Monitoring, Reporting, Compliance
- Review Corporate Recovery, Internal Audit, OCCO and Evaluation Department reports pertinent to the Business Group and brief the MD on relevant issues; review and follow-up on any matters related to the Business Group;
- Ensure regular reporting concerning business development activities and promote/facilitate the business development information/knowledge internally.
Staff Management
- Work with the MD, and take the lead from time-to-time, on HR-related issues within the Business Group;
- Liaise with HR Department to assist the MD in effective resolution/processing of any relevant HR issues;
- Assist, or take the lead when delegated, in recruitment, interview and coaching of new and junior staff, within the Business Group;
- Ensure day-to-day management responsibility for administrative matters (budget authorisations, travel authorisations).
- Directly accountable for the engagement and effective overall management of the Team including recruitment, compensation, performance management, coaching and development. Where matrix reporting is in place, work jointly with the country counterpart when setting objectives and completing performance appraisals for relevant staff.
- Champion and role model the Bank's Behavioural Competencies and Corporate Behaviours, ensuring adherence within the team(s) so that the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct are exhibited at all times.
- Take the role of engagement champion for the Sustainable Infrastructure Business Group.
Budget and Business Planning
- Liaise with Budget/Finance to agree the annual budget planning process as relevant for the Business Group;
- Coordinate the budget input from relevant teams to provide the MD with required data and consolidated budget proposal;
- Participate and/or assist the MD in business planning and budget negotiations as applicable.
Communications & Visibility
- Take a lead role in the internal and external communication activities of the Business Group.
- Work with the Communications Department to write press releases and develop a Communications strategy for the Business Group activities, as needed
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Senior level, relevant investment, finance experience coupled with sound understanding of the Bank's mandate and the sectors covered by the Sustainable Infrastructure Business Group.
- Sound understanding of the sectors under the Sustainable Infrastructure Business Group.
- Sound understanding and good knowledge of issues related to banking projects (credit assessment, transition impact, additionality, etc.)
- Relevant degree from a leading university
- Strong leadership, management, communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven business judgement and high ethical and professional standards
- Demonstrated ability to manage and complete transactions/projects
- Excellent time and project management skills
- Excellent business report writing skills
- Excellent English language skills (both written and oral).
