Are you an experienced Business Development Manager with experience working in professional services or a large, matrix organisation, who would be interested in joining a dynamic and high-performing team at EY?

We're looking for an experienced Business Development (BD) Manager based in our Bristol office, to work closely with our BD Client Executive and South West leadership team in the Private Middle-Market (PMM) space. The target clients and accounts range from start-ups, scale-ups and global companies - across all sectors.

The opportunity

Working closely with the BD Client Executive, you will actively maintain and build relationships with FTSE 250 and large private businesses in the South West.

You will be working with clients to understand their wide-ranging and complex needs, when faced with the significant business and regulatory challenges, and technological advances that characterise today's volatile markets. You will work collaboratively with colleagues to find appropriate solutions to shape towards the client's bespoke needs.

Client facing activity will take up c. two thirds of your time, with one third of your time spent on running go-to-market programmes internally; ensuring the internal BD community at Senior Manager and above have the right tools to get out in the market themselves (e.g. using EY Absolute and EY Growth Navigator™.



Your key responsibilities

  1. Identifying & supporting the development of new business opportunities
  2. Sales and program management
  3. Communication and administration

Developing new business opportunities: 60%
  • Being involved with the client/people relationships including:
    • Initiate and participate in client facing activities
    • Driving relationship actions at multiple levels
    • Working with the market and service line teams to identify the key players in each field of play
    • Owning client relationship events
    • Executing win/loss debriefs
    • Necessary or critical cover of other team roles
    • Management & mentoring of our EY offshore (National Market) team
  • Responsible for driving an account management framework
  • Delivering and enabling Exceptional Client Service in every external and internal encounter which includes:
    • Being connected to private client's growth agenda
    • Being responsive to and learning from our client's needs, seeking and providing continuous feedback
    • Being insightful through proactively sharing relevant insights
    • Facilitating account segment meetings
    • Leveraging EY knowledge tools to keep account team abreast of topical information
    • Coaching on PMM as part of the on-boarding process for all new partners and senior managers
    • Owning the Expectation and Assessment of Service Quality process for the PMM, which will include conducting some of the interviews or being a secondary interviewer where appropriate

Sales and program management: 20%
  • Managing the sales process which includes holding the segment teams accountable and the co-ordination of Go to Market programs for the region
  • Managing and maximising the opportunity presented by Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Strong understanding of the voice of the customer and which EY services and solutions are relevant to the clients growth stage
  • Driving the global revenue planning process, including challenging information where necessary
  • Managing and scaling the pursuit process. Taking ownership where necessary to ensure compliance
  • Supporting partners and BDEs when preparing for key meetings or new client engagements

  1. Communication and administration: 20%
  • Managing and updating BD SharePoint/shared drive
  • Developing and managing communications for PMM solutions
  • Owning the sales process for specific opportunities
  • Tracking the segment pipeline growth , ensuring its accuracy and reporting it to leadership on a regular basis
  • Supporting any independence processes where necessary
  • Liaise offshore activities i.e. Relationship map updates, reporting, pursuit tracking etc.
  • Analyse reports and communicate conclusions of financial reporting

Skills and attributes for success
  • Ability to develop maintain, and influence via internal and external relationships
  • People and project management skills
  • Numerical and financial skills - able to understand key financial metrics
  • Operational skills - being able to use power point and excel proficiently, organising teams and document proposals

To qualify for the role you must have
  • Proven results in long term, strategic, solution sales and account management within a strategic solutions sales environment with a proven ability to lead teams brought together around an account opportunity
  • Proven experience managing complex sales process and long sales cycles
  • Exposure to pursuit process (e.g. Target Account Selling)
  • Team based sales - will have worked with specialist to co-develop client needs
  • An excellent senior network in the South West market (e.g. C-suite level)

Ideally, you'll also have
  • Professional services experience (e.g. Big 4, mid-tier, law firms) or management consulting experience (not essential)
