Opened in 1981, and located in Sydney, Societe Generale in Australia provides products and services in the areas of financial advisory and global markets for financial institutions. Societe Generale Securities Australia is a full participant of the ASX24 and its businesses range from futures clearing to prime broking and clearing to equity and derivatives sales. Subject to regulatory approval, Societe Generale will provide banking services in Australia from 2019.
There are currently 40 members of staff in Sydney, representing 10 different nationalities, from different business lines and corporate functions. We are currently looking for a Tax and Financial Accountant to join us. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team in a growth phase and get hands-on experience within a fast-paced, results focused, global organisation. The successful candidate will play a key role in the functioning of a new team and will be able to build close relationships with the teams onshore and within the organisation more broadly on a regional and global basis.
Mission
Major Accountabilities/Principal Responsibilities:
The Finance Division employs 2,000 employees worldwide. It plays a fundamental role in developing the company's strategy and financial planning, managing cash flow and the company's structural risks, producing financial statements and regulatory reports, digitizing finance processes and overseeing financial communications. It provides an objective, cross-business perspective to guide relevant decisions for management and the development of the company.
The successful candidate will have a strong technical accounting and tax compliance background, with excellent attention to detail and communication skills. This position will report locally to the Chief Financial Officer. Key activities will include:
Tax Compliance and Financial Accounting
Various financial and tax accounting duties, including preparation of entries, reconciliations and payments in accordance with SG's tax reporting requirements
Preparation and review of various tax filings including GST, fringe benefits tax, income tax, Australian local file, FATCA, CbCR and withholding tax returns
Assisting with thin capitalization and annual investment income calculations and reporting
Reviewing transfer pricing calculations and ensuring compliance with documented transfer pricing methodologies
Liaison with external auditors, completion of audit requests and assisting with the resolution of audit-related issues
Providing support in the preparation of financial analysis required to support business initiatives, including technical IFRS accounting support on new business initiatives
Assisting in the oversight of offshore accounting processes
Projects
Assisting with the implementation of new systems, business process improvements and reporting automation initiatives
Liaising with teams in regional headquarters based in Hong Kong on transversal or local projects
Functional Relationships:
INTERNAL: local, regional, global and offshore finance teams, local and regional tax advisory, staff from business divisions and support functions
EXTERNAL: external audit firms, regulatory authorities and tax authorities
Profile
Qualifications, experience & knowledge required:
Australian ca or cpa qualification (mandatory), with approximately 5 years post qualification experience.
Candidates with previous experience in a banking or financial services environment will be considered favourably
Proven and strong experience in IFRS accounting and APRA regulatory reporting preferred.
