Department Profile

The Finance Division globally reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 3,000 employees worldwide. Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm's books and records, and by contributing to firm wide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley's various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley's various businesses and its senior management team.

BRM Controllers are responsible for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the books and records in respect of the BRM business and for providing accurate and timely information for both Finance Management and the Business Units. They are also responsible for supporting business initiatives, statutory and regulatory reporting and they partner with Information Technology, Operations and IED and Equity Business Unit Controllers to ensure a solid business infrastructure.

The BRM Control team is part of Morgan Stanley's Global Funding Control (GFC) organization. Business coverage includes Securities Lending, Firm Funding and Client Financing Businesses across International markets.

We are currently looking to recruit a Manager to assist oversee the daily activities of the group including daily PnL production, management reporting and balance sheet review as well as work on a number of projects central to improving both the control environment and the Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet processes.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop a detailed understanding of the various BRM businesses, including the P&L and Balance Sheet drivers.
• A key contributor to multiple securities financing initiatives, including extensive involvement in FCA (Financing Cost Attribution) improvements, Balance Sheet netting under various accounting practices, financial reporting under IFRS9, Brexit readiness and a multitude of NPA workstreams.
• Building out reporting to identify Securities Financing over/under recovery to identify disconnects between external street costs and internal recovery versus Sales and Trading.
• Liaising with multiple senior stakeholders across Sales and Trading and FCG to understand and improve the granularity of their BRM allocations, across both businesses and entities.
• Develop new and enhance existing various interest reporting and analytics across BRM, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of key SEC reporting lines across the Firm.
• Responsibility for the production process for the weekly FID Financing and Securities Lending MCR's, in addition to monthly, quarterly and yearly financials.
• Daily contact and liaison with Finance, Operations and Business Unit counterparts globally.
• Understand and be in control of the key risks faced by BRM, identifying control gaps and enhance the quality and scalability of existing controls appropriately.
• Escalate appropriately risk issues as and when they arise.


Qualifications:


Skills required

• Candidates should have a specific interest in financial services.
• Product knowledge across a wide range of Equity and Fixed Income products is desirable.
• Good communication and analytical skills are essential.
• Advanced Excel skills are desirable, intermediate essential.
• High level of guardianship - The candidate should be focused on guardianship and ensuring that exceptions are identified, resolved and escalated on a timely basis.
• Secured Funding knowledge and funding cost allocation experience is desirable
• High level of organisational skills - Ability to manage time effectively is essential.
• Ability to manage own workload and carry out tasks with minimal manager guidance.
• Ability to quickly understand and pick up issues.
• Experience of working with teams in deployed locations is desirable.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Education desired - Professional Accounting qualification
