Division Description

Group Strategy Development (GSD) is responsible for developing, managing and executing the Group strategic planning agenda. We are a dynamic team and our priorities reflect the key Group initiatives. Our primary areas of responsibility are: - Strategy Implementation - Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) including execution of deleveraging initiatives - Other Group strategic initiatives as requested by the Group Executive.

 

Description of business unit

We are recruiting within the Group Strategy & Development (GSD) team at Bank of Ireland.

Operating as part of a small team, you will partner with the GEC, Senior Management & Leadership Teams to define and drive the Group`s strategy and enable the Group to achieve its ambition to become the National Champion Bank in Ireland, while maintaining UK and selective international diversification.

 

Purpose of the Role

GSD is responsible for development of the Bank of Ireland Group Strategy for Board approval, including Group strategic direction, portfolio shape and corporate strategy. GSD play a key role in setting the Group`s strategic decision agenda; providing strategic thought leadership on critical issues; and facilitation of high-quality GEC and Board strategic dialogue.

GSD supports the business by setting a common language for strategy development across the Group and support for execution of the most critical strategic issues. GSD supports business growth through selective development of key growth initiatives, M&A transaction support and development of significant partnerships.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Identify, through a strong external focus, critical industry developments and key trends and provide analysis and recommendations to senior and divisional management on Group implications and strategy
  • Support the team in the development and management of the Group`s strategic activities
  • Produce insightful research and analysis to support new business propositions, investments
  • Prepare high quality reports and presentations for both internal and external purposes including senior stakeholders throughout the wider Group
  • Support the co-ordination of projects including timetables, budgets, terms of reference, steering committees, project risks and insider lists
  • Work with, influence and constructively challenge people at all levels and across Group divisions

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ACA qualified professional / corporate finance manager/ management consultant to join Bank of Ireland at a key time in the organisations evolution.

 

Essential Qualifications

3+ years relevant experience ideally gained from the Financial Services sector

 

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong ability to interpret financial information, carry out research and scope strategic project requirements in an organised and logical manner
  • Knowledge of overall financial services sector, in particular the British and Irish banking sector
  • Knowledge of banking and insurance valuation metrics along with key performance ratios/ indicators.
  • Excellent analytical, financial modelling and quantitative skills
  • Excellent report writing skills including ability to prepare reports to Board standard
  • Experience in developing relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders to understand their requirements and influencing at the highest level.
  • Well organised with demonstrable experience working to deadlines
