This role will take lead in ensuring that rigorous financial control is maintained within the Division, in particular through robust budget setting, budgetary control and establishing effective relationships with funders.

Description

  • Take responsibility for the preparation of budgets for existing services and offices within the division, working closely with Area Managers. This includes the preparation of financial forecasts for the division, areas and services when necessary to reflect changing needs, taking into account relevant external factors.
  • Work closely with Development Managers to appraise, assess potential new work and prepare budgets for tenders, ensuring their financial viability.
  • Take responsibility for securing annual funding at a senior level. This involves a very significant proportion of the organisation's income (up to 25%).
  • Develop and sustain effective relationships with funders to ensure timely budget agreements, resolution of any difficulties, be responsible for assisting Divisional Directors / Area Development Managers or taking lead when required in negotiating with funders
  • Provide Head Office staff with detailed billing instructions once budgets have been agreed, and assist with the recovery of monies where problems arise.
  • Perform detailed financial analysis on monthly management accounts, to identify significant trends and variances. This involves presenting data in original and creative ways to ensure that it is easily understood by people at all levels.
  • Take initiative in ensuring that corrective action is taken where negative financial variances occur, advising on alternative options available and, where required, putting forward proposals for service reconfiguration.
  • Promote and ensure that organisational financial policies and procedures are adhered to across the division. Advising Operation Managers accordingly.
  • Contribute to ensuring that robust financial control is maintained within the division, investigating and rectifying any problems which become apparent.
  • Maintain control of capital expenditure within the division, ensuring that CAPEX requests are valid and within budget.
  • Answer Ad Hoc queries and analysis as requested by Head Office.

Profile

The ideal candidate for the Finance Manager position:

    • Qualified accountant or QBE.
    • A minimum of three years' relevant accounting experience.

    • In-depth experience of budget preparation and monitoring.

    • Experience of supporting non-financial managers in understanding and monitoring budgets.

  • Experience of negotiating budgets with external funders.
