Financial Crime Assistant Manager
Working as part of the Financial Crime & Investigations team, you will be providing a hands on advisory service that meets or exceeds client expectations and supports the Partner/Senior Management team. You will support the Partner/Manager team on complex assignments and deliver discrete areas of work, providing input into the planning of work and the reporting of findings. You will support the management team to deliver projects on time and contribute to the growth of the Financial Crime team
You will be based in our London office. Travel will be required for some of our engagements.
Who we're looking for:
We are looking for candidates with a genuine interest in our clients and a passion to help them navigate financial crime challenges. You will have strong technical knowledge of the UK financial crime regulatory regime (across AML, ABC, sanctions, terrorist financing, fraud) and an awareness of current developments and issues, particularly within the regulated sector. You will have experience of working in the financial services sector or at a financial services regulator. As an Assistant Manager, you will have experience working on a range of assignments and be comfortable working independently using your own experience and supporting junior colleagues. You should be focused on self-development as well as having the desire to progress your knowledge and experience across the spectrum of financial crime topics. Grant Thornton Forensic & Investigation Services (FIS) supply a range of services to large corporates, lawyers and regulatory authorities. Our work falls broadly into the following areas: investigations, disputes, digital forensics, financial crime and competition services and monitoring.
As a service line within FIS, the Financial Crime team helps clients of all shapes and sizes by providing the advice they need to navigate complex financial crime risks and challenges. Our work is varied and includes:
•Reviewing a firm's financial crime framework (or specific elements within it) to assess business risk and regulatory compliance
•Providing training to raise awareness and update a firm's knowledge repository
•Internal systems reviews - combining internal audit and industry insight to report on financial crime control design and effectiveness
•Helping a firm to scope and carry out remediation activities in relation to core financial crime process (such as KYC, CDD/EDD, screening)
•Conducting investigations on behalf of a firm and providing recommendations to help them determine appropriate next steps
•Supporting an organisations response to identified regulatory breaches (including the remediation of sanctions breaches or instances of money laundering, bribery or corruption or more general misconduct)
•Helping clients of all shapes and sizes, from FS and non-FS regulated sectors, as well as corporates. We support businesses who make a major contribution to the growth of the economy in the UK and beyond.
What you'll be doing:
•Build up a network of contacts and attend external networking events, acting as an ‘ambassador' of the firm..
•Be aware of the wide range of Grant Thornton services and spots opportunities to sell those services to clients whilst articulating and promoting Financial Crime services to other departments.
•Be actively involved in office marketing events when appropriate.
•Seek to actively support some aspects of business development opportunities e.g. preparing proposals/bids, supporting at pitch meetings, organising conferences/client events, developing marketing materials.
•Builds an understanding of the potential for selling into clients and intermediaries.
•Providing inputs for reports including drafting report sections and reviewing work of junior colleagues.
•Be aware that Forensic reports and the opinions given are dependent on the accurate and efficient analysis work being carried out by junior team members.
•Keep organised records of work done and conclusions reached.
•Identify key issues early to discuss with the Engagement Manager and keep them informed of progress.
•Support the engagement Manager in meeting timelines & budgets
•Display judgment and an understanding of relevant risks and issues arising in an assignment, offering potential solutions and seeking advice as necessary.
•Support managers/partners/directors in client meetings.
•Displays good commercial awareness.
•Begins to develop judgment and an understanding around legal (e.g. employment law) and technical issues arising in an assignment, offering potential solutions and seeking advice when necessary.
•Engenders trust and respect from the client by managing assignments accurately, responding quickly to demands and delivering to deadlines.
•Supports peers in client meetings.
•Attends presentations and can address more complex issues confidently.
•Ensures junior colleagues follow agreed methodology for a particular type of case.
•Manages client expectations, undertaking an assignment manager role for smaller assignments; manage the day-to day aspects of these under Senior Manager/Director supervision.
•Prepares job appraisals and agrees objectives with Manager.People
•Bring to the attention of senior colleagues all matters requiring their attention and decision.
•Sets deadlines for self and junior staff and achieves them.
•Contribute to the group e.g. presentations at team meetings, 'lunch and learn' meetings.
•Work effectively with all members of the team, building respect of peers and junior team members.
•Mentors and coaches junior colleagues; appraises them giving regular feedback, completes timely appraisals and provides development opportunities.
•Actively seek and manages opportunities to develop own technical and consultancy skill, attend workshops, keep technical knowledge up to date.Operations and results
•Take responsibility for assigned areas, including having work reviewed and supporting the engagement manager in monitoring time and budget progress.
•Have a good knowledge of technical matters relevant to Financial Crime, including MLR2017, CFA2017, BA2010, JMLSG, and FATF guidance.
•Ensure compliance with internal procedures including the completion of take-on, conflict checking and setting up charge codes.
•Proactively understand the firm's potential liability on assignments.
•Adhere to the Firm's risk management policies and is aware of changes in the firm's approach to risk management.
Experience and qualifications:
•Min 4 years relevant experience (min 2 years in a financial crime role (consultancy or industry) preferred
•Financial crime professional qualification preferred (but not required) e.g. ICA, ACAMS, CISI, ACFE
•Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, primarily Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
