Based in the heart of London's west end my client is an established and profitable Communications/Publishing Agency! The company is independently owned and with a staff of 45, deliberately boutique. We are looking for a hands–on Head of Finance (HOF ) who will both help fashion strategy, and who is happy to get involved in the detail – for instance liaising with clients and suppliers over payment is part of the role. Working alongside the MD and CEO, our HOF will not only be an exceptional accountant and hands–on with company finances but will also be commercially aware, advising us on the best path of growth for the business. The HOF has overall responsibility for all financial aspects of company strategy and is expected to analyse figures and implement recommendations based on these findings, with the most profitable outcomes. Critically he/she will be expected to anticipate and prevent financial problems before they occur. Liaising with the account team through busy periods including month end, year end and annual budgeting, our preferred candidate will have excellent communication skills with all levels of staff, often having to work with various teams to help them plan and manage their own budgets. While not specifically a client–facing role, the successful candidate will be expected to support in this area where necessary, particularly on the preparation of financial materials for tenders and liaison with client teams, especially in procurement, about the financial strength of the agency. The HOF will be expected to perform any of the following tasks: * Form a close working relationship with the CEO and Managing Director, the account team and our non–executives. * Prepare monthly management accounts and detailed financial data for the quarterly board meetings. * Provide leadership to the Board's Finance and Accounting strategy, to optimise the company's financial performance and strategic position. * Retain constant awareness of the company's financial position and act to prevent problems. * Take overall control of the company's accounting function which comprises one part–time bookkeeper in support. * Contribute fully to the development of company strategy across all areas of the business, challenging assumptions and decision–making as appropriate and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets and business drivers. * Ensure that company financial systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth. * Get involved in the detail and be happy to chase clients for payment him/herself. * Work with senior teams to grow the business, suggesting strategies and plans. * Ensure corporate budgeting processes are carried out and reviewed. * Take ultimate responsibility for the company cash management policies. * Ensure that the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met. * Corporate finance: manage company policies regarding capital requirements, debt, taxation, equity, disposals and acquisitions, as appropriate. * Establish a high level of credibility and manage strong working relationships with external parties including clients, suppliers and advisers. * Qualified member of an accountancy body or holder of an equivalent qualification, with at least three years post qualification experience * Meet the requirement for a commercially astute, articulate, technically strong, dynamic, insightful and influential leader with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels. * Exceptional communication skills at all levels. * Strong IT skills, always being ahead of new technologies. * Ability to handle high levels of pressure and critical decision–making. * High integrity and openness combined with commitment to good governance. * Energetic, highly motivated, with an enquiring mind and passion for excellence and innovation in pursuit of business growth and success.
