Societe Generale Securities Australia is a full participant of the ASX24 and its businesses range from futures clearing to prime broking and clearing to equity and derivatives sales.
There are currently 35 members of staff in Sydney, representing 10 different nationalities, from different business lines and corporate functions. We are currently looking for a Financial Controller to join us. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team in a growth phase and get hands-on experience within a fast-paced, results focused, global organisation. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the organisation and functioning of a new team and will be able to build close relationships with the teams onshore and within the organisation more broadly on a regional and global basis.
Mission
Major Accountabilities/ Principal Responsibilities:
The Finance Division employs 2,000 employees worldwide. It plays a fundamental role in developing the company's strategy and financial planning, managing cash flow and the company's structural risks, producing financial statements and regulatory reports, digitizing finance processes and overseeing financial communications. It provides an objective, cross-business perspective to guide relevant decisions for management and the development of the company.
This is a hands-on role that requires a motivated person with a strong technical background and skillset and excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will report to the CFO of Societe Generale Australia. Key activities will include:
Financial Control and Regulatory Reporting
Oversight and management of the close process (e.g. monthly, quarterly and year-end financial closing and reporting, submission of financial reports, preparation of general ledger journals and monthly balance sheet reconciliations)
Management of APRA regulatory matters from review and submission of regulatory forms (including liquidity reporting and LCR) to assisting with any regulatory queries, and advising on and implementing any changes or evolutions (e.g.: EFS)
Coordination of global, regional and local reporting, including the preparation of ALCO, local schedules and reporting packs
Provision of support in the preparation of financial analysis required to support business initiatives including technical IFRS accounting support on new business initiatives
Liaison with external auditors, co-ordination of the completion of audit requests and assistance with the resolution of audit issue.
Tax Compliance
Assistance with the preparation and review of various tax filings or transfer pricing related tasks, including income tax, GST, fringe benefits tax, withholding tax, thin capitalisation and annual investment income reporting as appropriate
Ensuring compliance with documented transfer pricing methodologies as required
Projects
Assist with the implementation of new systems, business process improvements and regulatory reporting automation initiatives as required
Liaise with teams in regional headquarters in Hong Kong on transversal or local projects
Profile
Qualifications,Experience & Knowledge Required:
Australian CA or CPA qualification (mandatory), with approximately 10 years post qualification experience.
Candidates with previous Financial Controller experience in a Banking or Financial Services environment will be considered favourably
Proven and strong experience in IFRS accounting and APRA regulatory reporting preferred.
Behavioural Competency Required:
Self-starter with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Strong analytical, organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines
Meticulous with a strong attention to detail
Proven ability collaborating in a team environment, collective mindset
Adaptable with an ability to work efficiently in a dynamic environment with input to and from multiple stakeholders Ability to recognise areas for enhancement within existing processes, while considering interdependencies, and propose solutions
Functional Relationships:
Internal: regional, global and offshore finance teams, local and regional management, compliance, staff from business divisions and support functions
External: external audit firms, regulatory authorities and tax authorities
